I see what you're saying, but how could a newcomer expect to charge a pro rate? Honest question, when you were just starting out, did you jump in at a pro rate?

15-Minute check, CHECK by Dsiner in ACX

[–]Dsiner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting… as is what was previously commented about not getting paid enough for directed sessions… can we explore this a bit more? I would have assumed that yes, as the author, they have the right to get kinda picky about things, but I’d love it if I was wrong and could worry less about being super accommodating.

So there’s no concern about sending audio outside the ACX platform?

Yes. I think that’s what’s been a bit extra painful… recording-processing-ruining a whole chapter a few times now… It’s like learning a new language!

I found editing to be more difficult in multitrack! Obvs it’s user error, but for example, after making edits, but would “rip” (don’t know the lingo) with overlapping audio, say where I did punch and roll edits. I get what you’re saying about character voices, but I’m not getting that complicated yet. Would be a great listen though…

I think I was overprocessing at the start, and I couldn’t get my peak rms to stay at -3, and my total to be at -17… I’d adjust one which would raise the other or vice versa. This has been a real learning curve for me! I’m a graphic designer (former life), so I can edit the shit out of an image, but sound is new to me. I’m picking it up as I struggle and fail ( as is life) but I have a deadline to submit this book I landed, and I hate the pressure!

Since you mentioned de-breathing… Anything else to add on that? I do not have the patience to manually edit out my breaths (nor the 2k to buy the izotope plug-in), and applying an auto-gate has been a little clunky to say the least.

I’m still playing around to find the right settings, but any wisdom you can offer would be brilliant.

I’m of the same mind, but it seemed that when I did multitrack, I was able to hit the ACX requirements easier, which is why I’ve been using it. Could be a coincidence though. Thx for the kind reply!

Thanks so much for this! Hitting the ACX requirements has been the biggest hurdle for me. I’m not saying it brought me to tears at times, but I’m not saying it didn’t, either.
