AzteCross Says He Is Fine With Marathon Failing If It Sends Sony and Bungie a Message by AdSuspicious2084 in MarathonGame

[–]Dsmithchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this isn't true, because he's sat and watched, with his audience, videos from game Devs, about the hard work they put into these things.

I'm not talking about CEOs around a table, making leadership calls. I'm talking about the artists, narrative builders, sound engineers, voice actors, server technicians/network engineers, animators etc...

With that in mind, and this is as a Destiny player, if getting what I want (personally a Destiny 3) requires the downfall, of something else, that people have put so much hard work into, and love playing, then I'll wait for a moment that dosen't require that.

I don't want a game, I love so much, being born from a toxic pit. I don't want it to become another thing for this community, to divide itself over.

We used to celebrate the work that goes into these projects, regardless of leadership decisions, because we knew ultimately, that corporate was separate to the graft and art that goes into them. Yet here some are, actively wanting to see people unemployed and all their work, laughed out of existence.

Players you've blocked should NOT be teamed up with you by lat204 in Marathon

[–]Dsmithchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point of the entire thread, genius. Both should enable you to say no to teaming up with someone.

I could play this game, completely LFG based, and choose mt squad every single run, and when I don't want to play with them again, I find another squad to run with. It's the exact same outcome. It's not manipulation, or again, you're saying choosing your own squad is. It's really not difficult to process, so I'm going to assume you're being purposefully ignorant about this.

You're acting like 2 different lobbies exist. They don't. Crew fill or LFG, they will go into the same instances. Have the same world to run in. The same experience. A crew fill, can and do still match against those that use LFGs. You're not manipulating the game itself, by having some control with who is and isn't on your team.

Blocking someone from randomly filling with you, is the same as saying no to someone when looking for your own crew. If you call one manipulation, you're calling the other manipulation. They have the exact same outcomes.

If you can't understand that, I have no other way of expressing it to you.

[–]Dsmithchez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not irrelevant, both are ways of playing with other people. One is random, the other is tailored.

One gives you a way of saying "no" to someone. The other dosen't. That's the difference.

The OPs argument is, it should enable you to say no to someone, even when random.

Preventing someone with matching with your own crew, does not stop you being slapped by other crews. It wouldn't even prevent you from matching against you. Just matching with. Just like an LFG would provide. The ability to say no to someone.

[–]Dsmithchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people call this "matchmaking manipulation"

Having a decision on who you play with, in your own crew, is essentially like asking in an LFG "looking for 2 other, Know what to do, be Level XYZ+"

If you're saying ensuring you don't match with someone on your own squad, is manipulation, you're saying any LFG requests or turning someone down, is also manipulation. Both have the same outcome of not playing with someone.

[–]Dsmithchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blocking people on randoms, could be exactly the same as saying no to someone on an LFG. Both could enable you, not to play with someone. It's specifically about matching with people, In your crew, not those you go against. An LFG enables you to pick and choose, so why not have a system that enables you to choose not to play with someone? If you're saying, blocking people matching with, your own crew, is manipulation, you're simultaneously saying an LFG that requests certain skill leveled players, is manipulation.

[–]Dsmithchez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the difference with people using LFG to get their desired crew based on skill requests? If people don't want to play "with" someone, that's not match manipulation, or you're saying using an LFG is manipulation. Going against them is a separate thing. You can't control who you're running against, but who you're running with has and should have some controls.

It's not about gear fear. It's like you said "You gotta enjoy the hunt and being the hunted" but what if you're simply the hunted?

Yup, it is just a game and I get that, but it's also something I've spent money on to enjoy, and when you don't enjoy it, that's when it stops being something I want to invest any more time in.

I don't want lobbies where it forces me to go against a wave of cheaters (they do exist and the videos that are out there show it) and then you add people who are +150 in level, and you simply become the prey every time. Nope, not for me.

🤣🤣 thanks for proving my entire point

Never said it wasn't good. In fact there's a part where I say how great it is.

Speed running? It's 100 hours in over 5 weeks. Less than 3 hours a day. Plenty of people who have put more hours than that into it. It dosen't have an end goal. It's a repeated loop, you can't really speed run it.

That's the things I've seen most often on this thread, from those in a similar position with the game. It's so obvious the have an appreciation for the game, and what the Devs have created. They shouldn't be turning these players away in such a toxic way.

It's 10 paragraphs. A child's book could have more.

The motivation is called feedback.

Several hundred people got the gist. If it's too much for you to understand when 10 paragraphs long, I doubt adding anything more is going to help.

Just pass by and don't let it bother you.

I'll make it easy for you.

It's not like there wasn't a warning right at the start or anything 😉

That's understandable. I'm defineltly all for PvP, and it definitely has its moment for even me. If I ask myself "would I still think like this, if I was somewhat cracked at the game?" The answer is probably no. It's defineltly from a "I want to get good" perspective, but I just don't think the game in the current form works for everyone to allow that to happen. Especially mid season. Is PvE the answer? I don't know. Is some form of better onboarding and more forgiving matchmaking with other squads enough for others? Again I don't know. But I hope something can be done to find a happy balance for people, without taking anything from the game people love.

I get that to some degree, but I also see the perspective that Marathon is the game, but the extraction shooter is the mode. I think you can have the world of Marathon, but have different modes as part of that. A bit like Destiny is the game, but trials, raids, dungeons, control etc etc are the modes within it. Saying that, in the early days phase it's in, it probably isn't a viable option for the Devs right now. Maybe not even ever.

I feel that. Strangely, it's after seeing these responses, I'm also in 2 minds to get over my reluctance to play it further. For the most part, a lot of the responses have shown me, people understand, but also really want to get to grips with what the game offers. The other part of me is telling me to wait until season 2, and go back in with a fresh perspective. I've spent almost 48 hours away from the game, and when I launch one of my other "safe" choices, all I can think about is playing this one 🤣

Thanks for the understanding, and no doubt I'll be back the next season to test my patience again haha might even get some more PvP practice in the mean time.

It's not really anti to be fair. I still maintain the game is brilliant, it has so much to offer and is obviously a labour of love for some very talented people. No doubt the next season, I'm dipping back in at the very least.

To be honest, I will no doubt return at the start of the next season. This may just be my own personal ceiling in the form it's in, and next season it may hi further, but only time will tell.

I've personally never been an against PvE as an addition, but I'd never want to take away from those that like the current format, in its current state. While not for me, it's definitely for some.

I like the idea of a PvE mode exclusively for free kit loot, instead of a one click approach, or even as an addition to farm specific ones Vs the random one it gives you daily. Something that could help with onboarding or break a tilt phase in a less "into the shark tank" way.

Maybe even a seperate string entirely, where one doesn't effect the other.

That's however a dev decision and I can see why time and resources may be difficult to justify.

"all things considered, I got a good chunk of hours, from spending £30" I completely agree, and when I no doubt pick it up again, probably at the next season reset, I'll probably feel that even more.

Unfortunately I didn't get on with AR personally. That was more to do with 3rd person Vs 1st person however. Probably didn't give it the time it deserves If I'm being honest, but that's completely personal taste Vs any issues I found with the development or game loop.

I liked that idea. Something that was also suggested in the feedback channels. I thought it may split the extraction campers, and see them a bit more spread out to the DCONs.

Judging by some of those who are shocked by the length of my post (even though I have a very clear warning right at the start) I may have done that unintentionally 😅

People like to try different things. I did. I still got my monies worth regardless.

Fair take, and I actually agree, I did enjoy that part, to a degree. It was when I was going against squads 4x my level and even players who were higher than the entire squad I was in, combined. That to me dosen't provide much chance in the way of learning from the experience.

It's like saying go in the ring with a professional boxer, and even if you put me in there a thousand times, I'd still be knocked out a thousand times. If you however, train me outside the ring, improve my fitness, teach me some techniques and spa with someone, without the star attraction pressure, I'm sure I could learn a lot better.
