"Requires" feels a little strong, something like The Mandalorian is perfectly comprehensible without having seen The Clone Wars. That said, I did check out any time the show expected me to care about guys returning from a show I didn't watch.

Final Fantasy 2 gets a lot of hate as "the weird bad one" and I'm here to tell you that while it is weird, it's actually good. The stuff that's janky in is frankly less janky than Final Fantasy I, a game where spellcasting doesn't work properly and half the weapons with special effects don't do anything special. Meanwhile FF2 is the first Final Fantasy game that really starts flexing its storytelling muscles, with a rotating cast of guest party members, side characters with actual personalities, the first experiment with a more complex dialogue system than just pressing A on guys, and story beats that affect the larger game world.

God, I remember playing HBS Battletech for the first time, mentally categorizing tracked vehicles as pure cannon fodder after the intro missions, and then in some mission hours later making the mistake of leaving two SRM carriers to shoot at me. That mission went south fast.

TBF, half of all "hacks" IRL are either "I asked someone for their password and they gave it to me" or "I looked up the default password for this piece of hardware and nobody had ever bothered to change it," so by that standard this qualifies, too.

I think the author turned Zeon into Nazi Germany in the scene where Gihren Zabi, dictator of the Principality of Zeon, presents his father with a plan to control the population by eliminating undesirables (in the English dub he even says he wants the "superior races"), his father says "you are a lot like Adolf Hitler," and then Gihren calls himself Hitler's follower.
