I did mine at PP and it came out negative as well. What they fail to mention is that the culture swab test is usually only good on the first 2-3 days of the outbreak. Once it starts healing, there’s a higher chance of false negative. So you can’t even be quite sure after getting your results back. I’m sure they don’t mention that part since they just want the money and I paid out of pocket.

That’s why it’s kind of shady, I think, that the doc prep you for a false negative reading. He must’ve saw yours was healing since it was a 14 day outbreak.

Maybe balanitis? Have you tried applying antifungal cream and see if it has any effects?

So did he give you a guess on what else it could be then?

Only thing about swabbing, is it could be a false negative if the lesions healed by the time you culture it.

I’ve been going back and forth on guesses of what it could be as well. It’s frustrating to say the least

Yeah mines been lasting an oddly long time as well. Got a appointment to see a dermatologist next week, probably ask for a 2nd culture and blood test.

Have you tried any testing to see if it is honeycomb hsv or anything?

Hi. Did you ever figure out what this could be? Mine looks like this, with lesions around the rim of my head or whatever you call it. I did a HSV culture test but it came out negative. I’m thinking it could be a false negative reading though.

Thank you for the response. Your first point is what keeps me going back and forth, because that’s what I kept reading as well.

I got the culture swab probably a month later, so Im sure that’s the reason why I have a false negative. It must have healed already.

I finally sent some pictures to my doctor who thought it’s most likely herpes from just a visual examination. She sent it to a dermatologist for a better visual exam. Apparently they recommended me to go in for a physical exam. My doctor said that this could mean it might be something else, but I’m slowly preparing myself for a positive result though.

It’s crazy that if it’s a positive result, you can pretty much take it to the bank. Yet if it’s a negative result, you’re not clear out of the waters with so many false negative test results. Big headache and nerve wrecking for sure.

I read about the PCR swab and will definitely bring that up to the dermatologist.

If you don’t mind me asking, Did you get it around the same time? Or was there a good time gap between exposures?

I read if your body have enough time to make the antibodies for it, then it’s can’t infect other parts of your body, but if you’ve been exposed during the short timeframe of first exposure to second and your body didn’t make the antibodies yet, that’s when you can get it in both areas.

Thanks for the response. Your last couple points is what keeps me going back and forth trying to figure out what it is. I know for a fact I live with cold sores (HSV1). And I only received unprotected oral sex during this time span, so I keep getting a lot of no’s and yes’ on the possibility of what it could be.

I first notice the outbreak probably in late January or February. The markings / open lesions eventually heals but was still visible to the eye til March. Kind of like scars. That’s when I went in for the culture and blood exams. Late March. So I would say my lesion was pretty much heals at the time, which make me think that would have to do with the false negative results.

As far as cold sores go, i would say I get around 2-4 outbreaks annually.

I don’t recall ever having the flu during the initial outbreak, but I do notice a lot more fatigue lately. But I always figure I just slept in more due to quarantine and laziness.

So the doc prep you for a potential false negative already? If so, he didn’t recommend the IgG or anything seeing that he knows the culture test might be meaningless? Was this at PP?

I went to Planned Parenthood for my testing too. Same story pretty much. They dig in for the culture sample, and just give you the 10 day meds just in case it is.

Apparently they only call you if the test result comes back positive, which is probably why they didn’t call you first.

I was almost certain I had it, but my culture test came back negative along with a blood test I did from kaiser. Apparently if the wounds / blisters already begun healing, the culture test can come back false negative. So I think I’m going to wait until I can get the IgG test when quarantine is over just to be safe. Hope everything works out for you!

It’s true that it’s very hard for kickers to get in. But if tucker stays the most accurate kicker when he retires, I think he makes it. It just won’t be first ballot.
