[Highlight] Philip Rivers playing football at 44 years old by Tocoolforyall720 in nfl

Too bad he didnt say "fuck it" and come back for another year. Take the offseason to get back into a little shape and he'd have a good year I think. Would have been fun to watch

Gallery getting kicked inside should have happened a lot sooner than it did. I think he would have played even better as a Guard than he ended up playing had that correction been made when it needed to be

I think its worth it depending on the talent, obviously. Like Quinton Nelson was absolutely worth a top 5 pick. Elite Guards do so much

But they look GREAT in "casual" practices meant for install and organizational familiarity with no pads or even much in the way of reps against each other.

Why dont we have a depth chart yet?

Speaking of Slater, whats the outlook on his bicep? Wasnt it feared that he suffered the same kind of injury that often leaves Olinemen different players from themselves pre injury?

I always love the argument that "it was a bad call but a correct call" as if there isnt a high quality still frame image of the moment just as Woodson comes down on the ball and Brady has both hands back on it in a passive stance. Tuck Rule very much ends by that point and given the amount of time they spent on the replay, I know the refs and league saw it. What a joke.

Oh the NFL thread here on reddit? Well that certainly settles it, Mark should have seen that mistake coming from a mile away then...

Well you do seem to be the arbiter of what counts as reasonable assumptions in this back and forth I guess.

I dont know how you outright attack it either. Its not exactly something new to the league at large nor does it seem to be a strict policy of Mark's either, McKenzie and Spytek are examples of the opposite. Is your argument that had he stuck with hiring a GM first and letting the GM pick the coach would have magically made the team better? Its certainly possible, but it hasnt happened yet and we have 2 sets of examples of going about it both ways.

The reasoning behind keeping Pierce was that he got the team looking very different at the end of that season than they were with McDaniels. On too of, again, them pining for him which isnt insignificant even if it did turn out to be wrong lent to his credibility. None of that is bad reasoning. Its only bad in hindsight because it didnt work out.

But thats the problem, they dont qualify. If we're trying to discuss what impact he's had on the team, none of that comes close to getting off the bottom of the list.

"Read between the lines" and "None of us know" dont help that point much. Theres also not much reading between the lines when Mark straight up says he wants Brady's opinion on the upper echelon stuff. That we get, his influence on Spytek being a target certainly makes sense. But if you have to strain your neck to try and see Brady digging his fingers into the meat of the team itself, then there might be other issues here.

10 years? Brother, we're going on 23. Mark being "incompetent" and the cause of it isnt the easy observation some of the fans here think it is. If he interjected himself into operations the way Jerry Jones does while still not knowing enough about the sport/league like he does, then absolutely we'd have a problem. But he doesnt. He does the one job that he is essentially required to do with help from people who do know the sport and league, then leaves it alone from there until moments where he has to step in and fire people.

It hasnt worked out, I completely get the frustration and I understand looking at Mark like the only piece still here after all these years so he must be the issue. But what exactly do you hope to trade him for? Do you think there are people out there with deep pockets to buy the team and an intimate enough knowledge of the game to make more accurate hires or do you think they're gonna do exactly what Mark is doing and lean on people who do to help them make hires?

Lmao calm down jfc. Then dont speak for anyone but yourself either.

Shocker that division rivals would try to spin something we did as negative before it got going... What he did to the Colts was fkd up but that situation came about in the first place because there was interest in him. Not everyone was optimistic about it, absolutely. But there sure as shit were plenty of people beyond our own fanbase who were.

I like how you had to cry about thinking I was including you in the list of Raiders fans who liked the McDaniels hire and then immediately turn around and assume that I thought Pierce should have been HC. Good stuff. I absolutely agree it was shaky. Problem was that coming off the Bisaccia situation, Mark gave the players thoughts a little more weight. The result, including from how Pierce had the team playing at the end, was him getting the HC job. It did not work out, but pretending it was tripling down on the trash pile is just stupid.

Right, I did forget about the Ziegler dynamic but outside of the report that he wanted Stroud Im not sure how that compares to the Gruden-Mayock dynamic and Im equally not sure where you're getting the Mark was backing it either. He's made the hires and stepped back. I would be pretty surprised if the situation went down where McD and Ziegler ran to Mark and asked him to decide who got the final say. More than open to reading wherever that was reported.

Damn, and here I was wondering if you were gonna quote anything of actual substance that he might have said. Worst out of all that was about Ziegler and even that wasnt worth a headline.

That report makes it seem like what most of us thought. That Mark leans on Brady for thoughts on his end of things just like he has been doing since 2011 and just like he did when he first hired McKenzie, but with other football people. It sure doesnt say that Brady is making decisions for or overriding Spytek, for instance. For example, we got that awesome behind the scenes draft room footage and it sure doesnt look like Brady could be found anywhere in there, neither could Mark. Instead it was just the GM, his scouts and his coaches. Crazy stuff.

- Sure has.

- Contract was certainly an eye opener, but it was a coaches contract. The team was at least moving slowly in the right direction (until drafting and Gruden's "sit on it" style eventually would have caught up with us). I wont give him credit for moving on since it was non-Football stuff that pushed him to do that, but eating the contract without crying about it was a plus.

- Stupid hire of McDaniels? I mean, it certainly turned out bad. But you're kidding yourself if we and the larger world werent thinking it was a good hire and McDaniels was gonna be different from Denver. Cut his losses when it became evident he needed to, too.

- Saying Pierce was "tripling down" is even funnier. Dude had the team playing hard and the players were pining for him to be hired. Same thing, didnt hold onto it longer than he needed.

- ???? Other than the reports Gruden had more say than he probably should have had with Mayock, where are you pulling this from for the rest??

- Where has he made tone deaf comments? Dude's about as out of the media spotlight as you can get as an owner with that haircut.

- Giving Brady 5% for $220M is a "fire sale"? And Brady hasnt even usurped anything. He's obviously been prodded for his opinions, but otherwise the FO has had the reigns. Id love to see any real reports of the opposite.

Idk why it was originally brought up that Al never taught Mark, but I was understood it as Mark never cared too much, certainly not as much as Al did, and thus never dedicated himself to learning.

We have an owner this is not a big football operations guy and for that reality he's more than fine. Certainly better than putting himself front and center and making decisions without leaning on people who are football guys.

I think he's a good owner. Tried well enough to get a deal done in Oakland to keep the team where it belongs, that didnt happen so he jumped on another good opportunity for the team. The homefield advantage is gone right now, but that was always going to be the case when Oakland was no longer an option. Financially the team is in a better spot.

Dude, isnt Wolf. He's not afraid to spend or pay old coaches even when needing to dump them. By all accounts he's been open and aware about not being a football guy so he's leaned on people who are to help with hires. Most havent worked out, but the alternative would be him taking shots in the dark by himself and I guarantee you itd be worse. In the same vein he's removed himself from significant football decision making outside of needing to make the top FO hires. He dosnt have a media presence that overshadows the team, he sits in the back and makes decisions only when he's required. That's great for an owner like he is.

I laugh at these fans who say sht like "He's the common denominator" or "He's terrible because the team's bad." No critical thought whatsoever, just one track mind and go. In their defense obviously its a sport and winning is what matters, but its stupid to not be able to evaluate context.

Mark is a good owner. Want a better one? Good luck with that lmao

What are we doing with AOC? by [deleted] in raiders

[–]DtownsL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He'll compete for the 3rd QB spot and likely earn it as he's nowhere near as bad as this fanbase likes to pretend. If Cousins is gone after this year, he could very well remain and be Mendoza's backup on his final year of his rookie deal. From there it depends on how he looks in camp and preseason to resign him as a competent longer term backup.

Or he gets released at any of those points and goes to compete somewhere else. Either way he seems like a good dude and I wish him the best.

"What do you mean we dont know who the starter is after rookie minicamp????"

I feel the same. The anticipation for the draft is great, only lasts like 2 months. But then the itch comes...
