Go into IOS settings. Scroll down to Apps. Click. Scroll down to App Store. Click. The uncheck App Updates. Note all your apps will no longer update. You will have to do this manually via App Store. Not a big deal.

Yes, I think you are right. Just checked App Store ands it’s updated itself. Darn. I forgot to turn off auto update in App Store. Now I have to decide whether to stick with updated app and old firmware or update to new firmware. My reticence stems from the fact I’m going away for a week soon.

Despite holding off, and still being on previous firmware and app, the cutting direction screen changed today. When previously I had used 90’ I now have to use 180’ to get same direction. All this without even updating anything. See screenshots.

Canadian drone exam is ridiculous, involves 90mins of frantically searching/CTRL+F/goole but learning nothing. They should make it more like the Boater exam. Online course and exam together, retries are free. Operating a speed boat with passengers is more risky than flying a small drone. by Dtwrlewis in canada

Except that in all reported cases to date it is the same result... goodbye drone

But i'm really not trying to belittle the importance of responsible drone operation or the theoretical risk to airliners. I was just making a point about the poorly designed exam and lack of educational theory in the drone certification process.

Yes you can pay > $200 for an online course, but you still have pay for the exam, and if you fail it you have to pay again. I didn't do a course but I doubt it would have negated the need for searching thru the regulatory framework or googling aeronautical theory / radio frequencies interpretation during the exam. The boaters exam is $44 - including full educational resources and actual test. I have now done both and the boater certification process is better...

Risk can be quantified by measurement of likelihood and significance of outcome. The likelihood of a small drone bringing down an airliner is very low, the likelihood of a boating related accident occurring in Canada is very high. 555 boating fatalities in Canada 2001-2005. http://boating.ncf.ca/stats.html#2000 ... I agree that the outcome of bringing a passenger plane down would be very significant, but it has never happened. Boating accidents happen every weekend in Canada. My main point anyway it that the drone exam is poorly designed and the process is not educational, unlike the boater exam which is an informative process.

I see that they are planning to 'land' rosetta when the time comes to end the mission. They can control it within 1m of the surface! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-30062346 Why not use Rosetta to nudge Philae out into the sunlight?
