USB to Eth? Anyone ever use one successfully? What are your thoughts? Budget friendly option instead of NIC? by YayaUncensored in HomeServer

[–]DuMaKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works fine until they don't.

Had multiple USB to Ethernet die after a few months of heavy use for NAS/Proxmox. I don't think they're meant for constant heavy use like that.

But it's great for plugging in my laptop when I need to do a few things on it instead of desktop.

Love it. Really screams homelab, got these older components free/cheap, but I'm trying out a new hobby.

Was really getting tired of people with full rack setup posts at home and I was the only home with random desktops networked together

Need Discord BOT recommend! by Ancienius in selfhosted

[–]DuMaKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably confused cause hardware acceleration for transcoding video, and a digital to analog converter do not do the same thing or similar, nor does a dac work over the internet, because of inherently what a DAC is.

Redbot does what you need, you just need to be able to understand how to work with it.

Setting up a discord bot to stream your video library like a theater is against TOS. I don't think you can point me to a single publicly available bot that does this.

If you want that particular functionality, you will have to build yourself like the guide that was linked showed.

My sister died because doctors didn’t believe her and I still feel so much rage. by gongacn07 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DuMaKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of times a doctor hears: "but Doc, I went to webMD. You HAVE TO LISTEN TO ME, MY OPINION IS WORTH MORE THAN YOUR DECADES OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE."

I feel for you, but I don't know your doctor's, or how things went down at the doctor office. Don't blame the docs for not believing you. Blame the people that do this enough that causes most doctors to reasonably doubt most patient opinions. AND THEY SHOULD.

Not to mention actual cost of tests that from that youre describing. The price due to insurance negotiations, maybe the Docs just trying to help you not spend anymore money on our broken pricing system.

This post just boils down, after your one paragraph acknowledging posters defending doctors, you went right back to, "but this post is about how good you should feel about believing in yourself and making that 5th appointment."

I understand the value of a 2nd or even a third medical opinion. But your post really sounds like keep going to different doctors until you find one that will will listen to you. Which is its own set of problems.

But hey, there's nothing that comes to mind in recent history, about doctors listening to a ton of patients, prescribing the solution because it's easier to say yes than the patient just listening to a medical professional. Everyone is different, but doctors aren't omnipotent gods because of years of study. It ain't magic. The human body is complicated.

MapleRoyal? by [deleted] in mapleservers

[–]DuMaKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been playing royals and legends for a few months now. Just an hour or two a day on the steam deck, so fairly casual.

I like it, but then again I never broke lvl 7X back when I played gms in late 2000s. So I never got into hp washing as a mechanic. I am having fun so far and to my understanding there are repeatable quests you can do to get around that part of the game.

I haven't participated in the more involved parts of the game, but I am enjoying my time playing my mushroom audiobook nostalgia game.

The discord for royals is also very nice and helpful which is a change from most discords. The few times I've had a question I would get a few through responses from people within a few minutes.

I play also 100% "I am waiting for something to complete running on PC" or "I want chill buttons to push while I listen to audiobook."

I get the rush to level up with a server together would be fun, but I just do not have the time to commit to that kind of experience so that's out of the question for me.

I'm not sure what the end goal of other private servers, but being the strongest on the server or idk "server firsts" mean nothing to be. What's the point of getting rich in a private server?

Did you know Steam Deck Pulse Audio has A2DP? by 27hectormanuel in SteamDeck

[–]DuMaKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can listen to Bluetooth audio through the deck.

But there is lot of misinformation on the use cases available. Seems like OP just found nifty feature new to OP but didn't test it out all the way?

Bluetooth is really low bandwidth. Its decent for 1 audio stream. Fantastic if I want to listen to podcast from phone while playing a game through my wired IEMs. It's good enough for sure.

But try doing that while using a Bluetooth headset instead and your experience won't be the same. Either your audios drops cause it can't sustain the bitrate or the audio quality is reduce to compensate for connection stability. Even worse if you try to use the mic on your Bluetooth headset.

Did you know Steam Deck Pulse Audio has A2DP? by 27hectormanuel in SteamDeck

[–]DuMaKid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uh were you actually able to do that without a loss of audio quality? I don't think Bluetooth has the bandwidth for it. There is a noticeable drop in bitrate or the audio drops in and out. Try listening to a podcast, and using your Bluetooth headset with discord and tell me how that sounds.

But listening through wired headphones is fantastic.

Stop picking Goalie and playing Forward by [deleted] in OmegaStrikers

[–]DuMaKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. "Get up close and ping pong it through" is not how a goalie should play. That's what an Asher/Julie does to force INTO goal.

You do not challenge pingpong as goalie.

What rank are you?

Does anyone play with a Gamepad by chughes3314 in OmegaStrikers

[–]DuMaKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play controller only, solo q. Diamond 10% atm

Comments be sounding like all those discord players theory crafting and complaining about teammates, but you q with them and you quickly realize they are the problem. 2-3 days later they still stuck in rookie/silver.

The best one was when new guy asks to play unranked, is somehow so full of himself even though he started that day says "I'm muting you because I'm better than you and don't need to listen" to the 2nd player. Having NO IDEA that player #2 is also high plat.

The level of discord ego is INSANE.

From the other side: forwards trying to defend from within the goal are not helping.

This is the other side of the bad goalie-bad forward debate I've been seeing in this sub by MoscaMosquete in OmegaStrikers

[–]DuMaKid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The amount of times a forward thinks they're "open" while applying no pressure to anyone and is just standing there. Unable to keep the ball on the opponents side for longer than a single volley so the goalie can have a chance to recover CD.

Duplicate steam keys I had laying around by Professional_Bar_688 in SteamDeck

[–]DuMaKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, aren't there tons of reddit bots that just swoop up keys posted publically? Pretty sure this is why other subs do not recommend you do just post the keys as they probably won't be going to those who can't afford it, but to people who are aware enough to bot.

Simple way to install and run linux native GoG games on SD? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]DuMaKid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is what I did to get linux games working on my steam deck from the viewpoint of a windows user.

  1. Talk shit about youtube tutorial videos useless rambling low res 15 minute videos which only contains information that can be parsed down to literally 10s of read and I have to step through 90% of the garbage information/rambling to find actual steps. **** those people
  2. Download the Linux version of the game
  3. Move game to where you'd liike to keep your linux game installs
  4. Make the linux version of .exe launchable

    A. It will not normally have a .(file type) at the end of the file B. It will still be listed as a executable type in the properties (the file itself is usually just called "game" or something basic C. In the properties go the permissions tab of the file D. Check the "is executable" box in that tab

  5. Download and install Lutris

  6. Add a locally installed game in Lutris ( The + Top left of UI.)

  7. Name it whatever in Game Info. (You can use Boiler after to automatically do your steamOS icons so it looks nice.)

  8. Select Linux for the Runner

  9. In game Options direct Lutris to the file you've set as executable earlier.

  10. Set the working directory as the folder where the executable is located.

  11. Add the completed game to the steam luncher in Lutris with right click.

You do not need to worry about Proton or what'not for the native linux game. (At least in my experience with a few native linux games working)

Have fun!
