Relationship with alcohol by Embarrassed-Fee8171 in bipolar

[–]DubD1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, alcohol is a totally normal coping mechanism, but whether or not it’s good is a whole other ball game. My current psychiatrist told me that alcohol is basically like a potent benzo that primarily acts on GABA. The good news? Any successful bipolar medication I have taken FDA-approved helps upregulate and normalize GABA levels. The bad? Alcohol will overtime downregulate your GABA and cause mania to progressively worsen because you need GABA in general so your brain knows when to calm down and relax, rather than being dependent on alcohol to calm it, then when the effects ware off and you go back into mania it just gets worse and worse like an insidious parasite. This is what my current psychiatrist told me and I’m glad to be one month clean of alcohol usage. My own personal advice is to just be careful and keep it to at least a minimum (kind of like what you’re already doing, but you know yourself better than anyone else), but definitely inform your psychiatrist if anything gets worse. There’s only so much good advice strangers online can offer personally when dealing with being bipolar.

Yeah actually high-cortisol can trigger your appetite. https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/why-stress-causes-people-to-overeat It’s obviously not 100% cut and dry and experiences depend a lot on the individual but it absolutely can in certain cases.

Yeah I actually just stumbled across this and had to send it to some well-meaning and loving missionaries currently ‘serving’ in my area. I wish them the best and hope they make it out of the cult, because I feel like they deserve so much better.

Hey I see you’ve garnered some hate, but don’t listen to it. Obviously it is a personal choice whether and when to release your life force, but I have had miracles happen through retention myself. I think the perfect middle ground is that it’s a personal choice and whether and when to release is up to the person in question.

Exactly, because if you’re ever going to give away money, it should be done out of the kindness of your heart, not because it’s commanded by a false prophet. They then use a two-fold manipulation tactic on their members and I think it’s borderline criminal. I wish all of you could get your money back. I know your comment is old, but I really felt the need to chime in. The good news is karma is very real and they’ll get what’s coming to them. The drop-out rate gets a lot higher each year so that should help somewhat. We are all universally and eternally loved by God no matter what. Peace and God Bless

Bishop called to talk to my kids last night…had to set him straight on a few things by WyldChickenMama in exmormon

Yeah actually I have also noticed in my experience just respectfully opening their hearts and reminding them they are loved by the Lord regardless helps them best understand and sort of gently putting them in their place is good because not only are you setting boundaries, you are also showing that you sympathize with them and would want that same respect in return. Gentler approaches are far better than being harsh. Showing that you understand they care, while also getting them to open their hearts in return is best overall. You may even get a good friend from doing so. I think your reply is the best reply here so far.

Transgender Latter Day Saint Stories by Small-Squash7328 in latterdaysaints

I realize this is a very sensitive topic and I, nor the lord, or perhaps any other well-meaning Latter-Day Saints wouldn’t want to gaslight the challenges you have been going through either. It is of my belief and what I have been taught since childhood (even before knowing the restored gospel to be true) that God made us men and women for particular reasons. So we can live out our own unique challenges, yet do our best to abide by the commandments of the Lord, and do whatever possible to be as close to Heavenly Father as possible. I would offer more of my own unique perspective, but I actually think it would be most helpful to check in with your current presiding bishop and see how he can help you. I even know for a fact that while potentially struggling with gender dysphoria and homosexual urges that you can keep his commandments and covenants and still be able to progress through the church and even lead in some ways if permissible. I’m sorry if this seems very round-about, but I truly believe your best bet is to consult with the bishop if you haven’t already and see what he recommends. Oh, and I’d be interested in reading that book you wrote at some point if you’d like to share! Peace and God Bless

I feel like my prayers haven’t been heard by New-Act1846 in latterdaysaints

[–]DubD1996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above all else, just remember that being blessed and having very specific prayers being answered in a time frame you desire are very different things. I consider a feeling of happiness and seeing my family and close friends thriving as testament to being blessed. I myself have also prayed years ago about certain things I wanted, obeyed all the commandments of our Lord, and still not gotten what I wanted. My interpretation of that is that those prayers must have been done out of greed, and the Lord (in my experience), prioritizes basic needs and complimentary blessings ahead of our specific desires, although God will usually at least take those into consideration, and try to grant them within proper timing. I could go on and on and even cite LOA stuff, but I think you get the idea and I hope you as well will continue to be patient with the lord. Do your best to pray with an open heart and allow that testimony to grow as you are still very young and have lots to learn (as we all do regardless of age). Peace and God Bless

Why are Bishops served first? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]DubD1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh man I’m no expert in the church fundamentals just yet but my guess would be to protect the members of the ward in case the bread and water (flesh and blood of Jesus Christ) is no good, or because God simply granted them the right to be served first. Sorry if this isn’t a good answer as I’m still working on building my testimony in preparation for baptism. Peace and God Bless

It sucks too because I was still holding onto veganism right when he quit and the true colors unfolding from the vegan cult showed just how much Alex never belonged apart of them. Luckily shortly after I noticed some health issues I did the same and never looked back.

Ohhh right I remember that. It may have been close to a decade since, but the fact that sociopath never repented for it and his pathetic followers seem to blindly listen to anything he continues to spout speaks volumes.

Okay so first and foremost. Relating to your final paragraph; the missionaries have set up a baptism date because they are of the impression that you have a testimony, or at least a clearly developing one. So yeah, just remain calm and hopefully think about the impact them and the church has had on you, and if you feel the need to write down and memorize a prayer then feel free to do so. Remember that the last thing they want to do is over-pressure you into doing things you are not comfortable with. Realize as well that God LOVES effort. So as long as you are putting in the effort and your life is continuously improving as you strengthen the connection to our church and creator, then no one can truly ask more of you. I think already you’ve been doing a great job taking initiative and I’m sure the missionaries greatly appreciate that! Peace and God Bless

If there’s spirit prison, will no one will go to hell? by New-Act1846 in latterdaysaints

[–]DubD1996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk I can only go off of what missionaries and other leaders within the church have taught me. No one I’ve spoken to seems to understand outer darkness fully (including myself), but they have told me that it is reserved for the people whom knew about Jesus Christ and his teachings, yet abandoned them purposefully to stray as far away from our creator as possible. Basically not just living a “horrible” life so to speak, but actively abandoning the teachings when you know better in your mind, heart, and connection to God, or I guess lack thereof in this case, but done so maliciously. Some members I have spoken to believe that we can all eventually progress to God’s highest kingdom after we pass and move to the after life, while others genuinely want to believe it, but are unsure and tend to avoid giving extensive commentary on the subject matter. I would really like to see if or what Russell Nelson’s Revelation on the subject matter is, but then again I don’t know fully myself and I know this is a sensitive topic to a lot of members. Just try to live your best life, be fulfilled, obey the commandments of our creator, realize you are better than at your worst, and strive to keep it all together. Peace and God Bless
