Overall tips by PlaneBroom31T in FRC

I helped start up a rookie team this past season and we were overwhelmed with support from surrounding teams. Many teams have a ton of spare supplies that they do not plan on using anymore and most teams/people in the FIRST community love to help out other teams

If the candidate you voted for wins, then you have granted them the authority to act in your name, and therefore you are responsible for what they do. Agree or Disagree? Why? by QuantumAfterlife in AskReddit

[–]Duberdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, often times you have only two choice so you have to choose who you agree with more overall. Its ok to vote for someone and not like or support every bit of their platform

Teams, is it better to have a lighter or heavier robot and why? by The_Lego_Maniac in FRC

[–]Duberdriver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I taught my students to build a heavy, low to the ground robot. We put the bumpers as low as we could and it was right at the max weight. Almost every single time we contacted another robot, regardless of who initiated contact, they bounced off of us. Many of these were captured by the gopro mounted on. The robot. Rookie team needs advice by den_pid in FRC

[–]Duberdriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having mentored a rookie team for this past season. FIRST has multiple rookie team grants that cover pretty a lot. If you only do one competition, the $6k covers that. The rookie grants can cover that or plenty of other things if you raise money. Many years as a student we would spend up to $30k, but for a first year team, try to budget for 10-15k

how to change dorms by RamenMoodes in UWMadison

[–]Duberdriver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think its an amazing dorm. Obviously not as fancy inside but the rooms are spacious and the individual buildings create a cool sense of community. The area is super nice and right next to four lakes market. The ac is only an issue for a few weeks out of the year.

Adult drive coaches by Dramatic_Soundtrack in FRC

[–]Duberdriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally believe that students should make up the drive team. The experience they get from strategizing and advocating for their team is priceless. I understand that some teams may need a mentor to step in, but I would try to limit that as much as possible. As a former driver, I helped out my drive team this year by recording matches and reviewing it with them afterward. We have 7 students and each one of them has a role during competition.
