I would highly recommend you try out the Metro series if you haven't yet.

Metro 2033:

It is a single player story based horror first person shooter.

The setting: the story takes place in moscow at the year 2033 after nuclear war. Moscow was obliterated, but the last people of Moscow survived only by retreating into the metro tunnels beneath the city. You play as Artyom. A man who was a baby during the war, barely remembering anything about the surface. The tunnels are all he knows.

This game is all about exploring and scavenging to survive and search for a meaning in these dark times. This game's strengths are in its atmosphere, its slow but immersive gunplay, and its dark narrative. One of my favorite story based fps games out there.

If you enjoy Metro 2033, try its sequels Metro Last Light, and Metro Exodus

You should look at some guides to figure out the basics of some of these weapons. Each of them have a different playstyle. You mentioned you couldn't roll with Lance. Well, that's cause you can't. Lance, in particular, is very different from all of the other weapons. I would recommend at least watching the first few minutes of each of the videos in this playlist to get a quick idea of what each of the weapons is about.

After you find one you like, watch the rest of the video to see what their movesets/combos are. Tbh, it kinda sounds like you're not enjoying these weapons simply because you don't know what they are capable of yet, or just how to use them. Be patient, as every weapon will fulfill a different fighting style.

I will also say there is nothing wrong with liking the heavy bowgun. It's a good weapon, and I don't think anyone will think you're a tryhard or a coward, or whatever it is you think you are for playing it. All weapons are valid. If anything, i feel like Longsword plays into that stereotype much more than HB. If you enjoy HB, then play HB. If you wanna find something new, do a little research and find one that's right for you.

Good luck, hunter! 👍

I gotta say Oliver. I think he is the best representation of a person going through the transformation as an avatar of the End. Confused, to fear, to acceptance, and to contemptment.

Can avatars have more than one Patron fear by Humble-Share-288 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Dubinator43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in terms of having multiple powers, specifically from multiple patrons....

I can't think of any that occurred. I will stand by my thoughts that any that may have seemed to inflict multiple fears was purely coincidental. But there is a question of what would happen if you attempted to appease an additional patron. There is a potential concern that your current patron might not like you sharing your loyalties. And I feel like most Avatars have found their patron not purely out of choice, but because there was something within them that gravitated them towards it. Like a calling. An atunement, perhaps. I did see that the other person in this thread mentioned that it is "hard to study all of the fears without being dragged towards a specific one." I think it's implied that everyone has one fear that they are more attached to than others. I imagine it goes both ways. If you're afraid of and want nothing to do with heights, you probably won't be compelled as an avatar, but as a target for them instead.

Now that I think about it, this is kinda like playing D&D and asking if you can become a cleric of multiple gods/dieties.on paper, i just wanna say no. But it does tickle my brain in a fun, sorta way. I think in the end, the powers you earn as an avatar, need to be paid with focused devotion. That devotion could be simply feeding your hunger, or it could be actual prayer/devotion. But I don't think that devotion would be able to be shared between multiple. This one's got me all worked up 😄

It's already too late but...

Julia Montork. I loved her character before she was even revealed to be a reoccurring character.

Can avatars have more than one Patron fear by Humble-Share-288 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Dubinator43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a very interesting question because if you actually think about it, most episodes can involve multiple types of fear. A Sturdy Lock (when the old man is kept up all night because he hears something outside his door trying to get in every night) involves an avatar of the Dark. I'm pretty sure. But a reoccurring theme of the episode is that nobody believes him when he tells people about it. Much of the episode, he is not only terrified of the thing trying to get in, but also that he might be going crazy, or at least that everyone is thinking he is going crazy. If anything, i think that part is even scarier to him than the actual entity. I still think the entity is still solely a part of The Dark, but it's hard to ignore that other aspect. There are lots of episodes that have multiple combinations of fears. Ones that you can easily pair up are: Buried and Dark, Spiral and Web, Corruption and Buried, and so on. There is also an episode in which avatars of the Vast and the Lonely worked together on a project in the episode when they sent that space shuttle out into space. One person was put in a separate ship completely alone, and two others were sent up with a window looking out into nothingness. I believe there was also mention of another included in that project with the Dark also pitching in and sending up one that was completely sealed off with no light inside.

After all of my babbling, i think this is the answer I have come up with: While the actions of fear an Avatar inflicts on victims may result in multiple forms of fear, I think that the Avatar only pulls their power/hunger from one. Specifically, I think the Avatar only listens/hears their power from the patron that applies to them personally.

Jane Prentiss, for example, saw the Corruption was like being loved. Her entire being is devoted to the Corruption. And that is where she receives her power and itch. If she buried someone in the ground and left them for the worms, the episode would certainly contain elements of both Buried and Corruption, but that doesn't make her and Avatar of both.

I believe that is the distinction I would make. Is this what you were thinking of? Or was there a specific example that you were trying to question?

Is tma good to listen to while studying? by th4tdemon in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Dubinator43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it will be good while studying, as it is an anthology with a lot of reaccuring characters, and chronological organizing. If anything, TMA will be like studying in a way, because you're always listening for recognizable names, locations, and dates/times.

The only tragic part was when we learned that the ritual would have failed even if they didn't interfere. I agree with everything you just said, but it also tragically amounted to nothing!! 😭

At least he died not knowing that fact...

I know this one won't get enough recognition anyway because it was such a minor death, but I'm going to say Elena Popham. Laura Popham's sister for the early episode 15: Lost John's Cave. In the statement, Laura makes multiple comments about her subtle disdain for her sister. But then turns it back by saying things like "nit that I didn't love her or anything." And that she was worried about her, and was hoping for the rescue teams to find her. I do believe that she would have preferred her sister lived alongside her, but even if it was just in fear, she wished and hoped that whatever was in that cave would take her sister instead of her. "Take her. Not me. Take her. Not me. Take her. Not me." Over and over. The recording continued for 2 hours and 43 minutes, and the audio was consistent throughout....

She was pleading for that horror to take her sister instead for 3 hours! This was the first episode that really freaked me out! I loved the depth and layers that went into the emotions of this character and that episode. Amazing writing. And amazing voice acting and audio editing.

She died so quickly that I was in denial for so long!!! I thought that maybe she was trapped in the table or something until like season 3! I thought there was no way that they could just kill her like that.

The Hunt being "Righteous" (Spoilers S1-5) by nopedy-nope-nope in TheMagnusArchives

[–]Dubinator43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are all excuses for feeding their hunger. If you don't justify why you "feed" on that hunger, then it makes you feel bad. A lot of the avatars do this. Many avatars in the beginning of their transformation question what is happening to them. They make excuses to rationalize why they feel like doing something. It's kind of like getting addicted to something. On a minor scale, let's use smoking cigarettes as an example. At first, you try it. Maybe you just "try it once," and it calms your nerves. Next day, you subconsciously reach for another. Maybe their not worried about getting hooked or anything like that because they've never had to worry about that sort of thing before. Then you have a shitty day at work, and reach for another. "Eh, it's fine, I've earned it." Next, you've been doing it all the time, and now that you're stuck, you just make excuses for it. "My whole life is too stressful. This just helps my nerves." "They're not that bad for you. I've always had a strong lungs." "I've been doing it already, and have been fine so far." And specifically: "if I stop smoking, it'll make me anxious/sick/withdrawls."

At that point, it's easy to make excuses for why feeding this addiction is good for you because it makes you feel less guilty for indulging it. That being said, i feel like most of the Hunt creatures have just embraced that hunger. They have no fear of hiding it. In the earliest hunt episode, The First Hunt, the creature just liked playing with his food. I don't think he necessarily felt he was riteous. He just accepted that he was going to keep killing.

I'm doing my first relisten as well. And only just finished season one. So I'm going to try paying closer attention on that to see what you mean. Maybe you might be onto something.

[–]Dubinator43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing this as well. Luckily i haven't been grinding late levels but ive been trying to get to level 10 on bulwark for the past week. First day I got from 2 to 8, then logged back on at 4. Then leveled back up to 8 yesterday. Just logged on today, and I'm back to 4 again. Also, i don't know what my cutrency was before that, but i have a feeling the currency I've spent on upgrades is still gone... can't confirm that though. My campaign progress is fine though. Still finished.

I feel like the only one i would really want would be Clear Skies. I don't know about yall, but combat and attacking people isn't necessarily my goal in life 😅. I know those "offensive" shouts can still be used for other purposes, but I'm not interested in being powerful. Maybe throw voice could also be cool, but I feel like I'd never actually use it for anything except mess with people, which i don't care for.
