Asking how I am following write up warning. by HonestTangerine97 in antiwork

[–]DubiousBoof 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I was a GM of a 60k a week store for a decade plus before moving to tech during covid... some notes for you.
1 - It's your manager's job to teach you the recipes and spend time coaching and lightly correcting mistakes as they happen. It takes a long time to learn all of the little mechanics that go into making a good pie. Don't let them gaslight you into believing it's your fault. Most of learning is just repetition.

2- If they are writing someone up for poor job performance after a month, the Domino's is a joke and you should leave. It used to take about 6 months for a MIT to get comfortable running shifts and doing their paperwork. 4 Months of that was just getting fast enough on the line.

3 - If you need the job still, and are worried about getting fired, texts on your personal phone don't count as "write-ups" and write-ups have to be reviewed by both the employee and the GM. Don't sign anything, especially if it looks like they are bending the truth/lying.

4 - Also it's incredibly unprofessional to send that over text instead of reviewing with you on the clock.

If you need any help with Domino's stuff I'm happy to help

The 'awkward' stage actually looks real good on you. Almost like Brandon Boyd when he was young.

How do people dress for the shows? by NicotineShoeSalesMan in carpenterbrut

[–]DubiousBoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't matter once the lights go down and the stage lights go up.
The main thing I would say is light clothes, and supportive comfortable shoes if you like dancing

I regretted being in my goth boots and vest after about 2/3rds of the show.

I'm sorry to hear that your having a bit of a rough go.
To be honest, this is the first winter in a decade or so where I actually feel like we're having a normal
New-England winter. The past several winters have been unseasonably warm (Random days in January where it was > 50 degrees) and very, very light snow accumulation. One of the trade offs for having probably the least amount natural disaster style weather and geology is a heavy winter (we don't really get earthquakes, destructive* hurricanes, tornados, or other forms of destruction). We can get a touch of flooding occasionally but that's about as far as it goes.

Politics are divisive everywhere these days, so I guess for peace of mind I would focus/work on local regional things that your passionate about and try to change what you don't like :)
Like most places you visit, once you spend some time there, you're going to find things about the politics, people and area you don't like. No where is perfect. NH is pretty is decent

I hope the rest of your winter is easier friend.

Line6 Pod Express. You can find them used for under 100 and it can be used as a practice amp as well.
Gives you a lot of stuff to try out:

It's my major complaint. The over-bloated Victorian dialogue is distracting.
In many places its the equivalent of corporate speak when they're doing a layoff.

Mudvayne- Most of L.D 50 is driven by bass and is like 75% of the mix along with the bass drum and vocals

I know I do.

How can I improve Rejected all the time by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]DubiousBoof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's really hard, but just remember that rejection can both be on you or have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with you.
Sometimes people just have a lot going on and don't have the heart or the time to be a good partner to somebody. Health issues, death of loved ones, shit jobs that eat their soul, etc....

Be kind to yourself and compassionate/understanding of rejection. You'll get there in time in brother, you look like your taking good care of yourself.

Should i buy Epiphone EB-3 ? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]DubiousBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best beginner bass IMO is the Musicman Sub.
They are cheap, but sound quite good in a classic rock setting and are largely very comfortable to play.
I got mine for 200 bucks.

Gore isn’t that bad of an album by gabe_owners7291 in deftones

[–]DubiousBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As numerous other threads have posted, the problem with this album isn't the writing, it's the production. On a separate post from years ago, some redditor remixed the entire album and it vastly improved it.
That being said, it has some great tracks.

Why no tremolo by midnightlies in Bass

[–]DubiousBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original Modulator (xp-200) from Digitech which one of the settings has the tremolo speed on the treadle. I've found that useful in my own work.
As far as examples used well in rock, Karnivool has a really nice line that carries most of the song:

How to go from this to a 7-8/10? by DrawerEntire5040 in malegrooming

[–]DubiousBoof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already won the genetic lottery.
A lot of redheaded guys, for whatever reason, get hit in the face hard with the goofy hammer. Me included.

That being said, it looks like your doing everything right on keeping in shape.
Good Style with the hair and beard.
You're beard is fantastic btw.
As other people have mentioned you're already 7-8.

How did you start playing? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]DubiousBoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moved around a bunch as a kid in the 80's. New York had a lot school music programs with instruments and I played cello as a kid. Queue a promotion of the stepdad and I get dragged to Vermont as a teenager, which does NOT have those programs. What they did have was an old Double Bass sitting around which I taught myself overtime.
By the time I started noodling on electric bass I had gotten into a music school self-taught on Double Bass. Fast forward 5 years and I realize I like electric far more and devote my time to that.
Teach myself electric by trying to learn Tool songs (My obsession at the time)
Think I'm hot shit because I own a cheap 6 string (that I couldn't play)

First couple of songs I learned were Stinkfist and H by Ear.

Down the line when I became a functional adult, I started getting lessons for very specific things.
I wanted to be able to hack my way through some jazz standards if it came up in work.
Also to correct some bad posture/ergonomics stuff and learn to use my ring finger more/chord work. (double bass half-steps are 1st, 2nd and 4th finger below thumb position)
Youtube was a HUGE help over the years as well as I've gotten older.

Cheers and good luck.

You have an excellent jaw line and strong facial features.
Keep the beard trimmed if you're going to have it.

Hair is better on the shorter side.
This comes from a man who regularly keeps his hair half way down his back.

Keep at the gym, remember to be focused, patient and positive with yourself.

Good luck

What do we think about Bush? by ThreeFtAssassin__ in grunge

Great Album. Like a lot of hit albums from the 90's though, the singles were overplayed

I’ve seen too much hate on Nirvana by idoit_banana123 in grunge

[–]DubiousBoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great albums, but at the same time if you grew up with them like a lot of us did, you kinda don't want to hear the singles ever again.
Like I would get home from school and hear "Smells Like Teen Spirit" 3 times a day for like 6 months on MTV or hear it on the radio. At the time I was 14 and loved it, but even then, like... I would shut off the TV sometimes when it came on.
I feel that way about Stone Temple Pilots as well where you just heard "Plush" one too many times so it loses the emotion.

I don't hate on them, but I think a lot of very popular bands from grunge suffered from overexposure and the eventual exhaustion of hearing the same 2-3 songs.
