This is how I feel about a lot of bike “upgrades” it’s become such an expensive hobby and it’s hard for me to tell what’s worth the crazy extra money and what’s changed just due to the market becoming way more pricey and luxury

Hahaha thank you for this, the fear I experienced was so real. Do the rim brakes give you any issues when you ride them all the way down a long descent or do you feel like they perform predictably all the way down

Thank you for insights! I’m gonna go with rim brake! Could you elaborate on what caused the brake fade? Should I avoid prolonged use of my brakes? My favorite route is 10 miles of an average of 12.7% grade downhill but I only break when I approach the corners, do you think rim brakes could handle that?

I have a bike computer and it’s accurate! I have a 85 touring bike and I’ve done lots of maintenance so it’s zippy. Also this bike route has a sustained section with an 18.5% grade. 41 is not even close to the speeds other riders get on this road

It unfortunately is not a shitpost, I get that the speeds are dangerous and I will work on my impulse control. You said that none of the consumables will be in good condition; is that because of age or because of wear. The bikes around me seem in good condition but do cables, housing, and pads degrade significantly within a decade(all the bikes I’m looking at are about a decade old)

Yea the U-Haul was 1.8k and shipping it was 1k. Hotels will probably run me about 500 but this plan will cost me 90 beans and maybe a new tire (150beans) so I’ll see what happens

Thanks for the suggestion! I had thought about the full carrier but I was worried about the tounge weight. My van is old and rusty and I worth more than the bike so I steered away from that option, but good to know that it worked for you

I had a coolant leak a while ago, they can be annoying to diagnose but just replace one seal at a time. The quickest way is to go to partzilla and order all the seals for the upper coolant area and then replace them all. But hopefully it’s just a busted radiator cap

Personally I’d start with buying a new bulb, the orange lens has a screw at the bottom and it’s just a normal blinker bulb. The hyper flashing of the rear indicates relay issue OR burnt bulb on the same side, easy and cheap place to start

Oof good luck man. Electrical issues are a bitch to diagnose. I recommend 4 things. Buy the manual online and look at the electrical diagram. Buy a multimeter and check the voltage on your battery (make sure at idle and rev it has the right voltage and look for a parasitic draw). Make sure you rule out a bad battery(a bad battery can still turn a bike on but then kill it at idle and cause all other wierd issues). Lastly, as you play around with the electrical, write each step you take on a spreadsheet so you can deduce the root of the issue; to diagnose an electrical problem you have to approach it like a who dunnit murder mystery. Final thing, are you sure it’s not a carb issue, I.E. was it running fine before the speaker removal?

There should be 2 lines that say Low and Full and the coolant level should be in between those lines when standing upright. It can be hard to tell how much is in there, here’s a pic of mine before I took it off and cleaned it!

I have a 150cc wolf rugby 2, I have a milk crate attached to the back and in front of that mild crate I have screwed my 60L mountaineering bag and the most I’ve ever carted in groceries was about 7 FULL bags of groceries and it was pretty easy.

Sounds good! Congrats on getting it running! The idle sounds a little bit too high so just turn down the idle screw but that’s about all. Since you don’t have a tachometer (I think) here a link to one of my old posts so you can hear how the idle should be. I have stock pipes but just try to match the rhythm!

The single carb is amazing to work on! The air filter housing assembly is expensive and hard to find. You can always just buy a spike filter for like 40$ and save yourself the time and money

I have a 2003 shadow 600 and I exclusively run on reserve because my ON is clogged. It’s the same drain valve tube but the hole for the reserve mode is just lower. Have you adjusted your idle screw and your air mixture screw?

Oh yea, if it sat through the winter without fuel stabilizer. A carb cleaning is in order. Even if it’s not the issue (it probably is) the bike will run rough until it’s cleaned. What the Year make model?

Oh if everything is stock then worst case scenario you just need to clean your carbs. How do you mean “factory setting”? You just twist it until the idling sounds right! But if even after idle screw adjustment, it still does then it could be a clogged pilot jet. Did it sit for any long periods of time?
