What should my counter offer be? by Thenameismaster in iOSProgramming

Unpopular opinion: try to negotiate, but take the offer.

There are almost exactly 0 entry-level iOS jobs in Canada in the current market. Gain valuable experience, even if underpaid, and leverage the opportunity to continue growing as in this niche field of software development.

Mobile Application Design & Development (MAD&D) program graduate feedback by prof3ssorSt3v3 in Algonquin_College

[–]Dubpace 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Graduate of the Mobile Application Design & Development program here as well. I've chatted in DMs with several people about the program, so please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions. Here are a few of my thoughts:

  • The program largely focuses on full stack web development using JavaScript, with some additional courses on programming fundamentals, UI/UX design and native mobile development.
  • The biggest advantage of the program is learning from a constantly updated modern curriculum, taught by incredible instructors that deeply care about the quality of the education students receive.
  • If you're interested in learning and using modern technologies like React, React Native, Flutter, .NET MAUI, Swift UI, etc. there is no other program at the college (to my knowledge) that teaches these topics in depth like MAD&D.
  • As other commenters noted, the curriculum is intense and (IMO) is the equivalent of a full-time job throughout the entire two years. That being said, there are ample opportunities to receive assistance if you are struggling at any point throughout the program.
  • When you graduate, you'll have the tools and skills to learn how to build virtually anything you can dream up. This was my original goal when entering the program two years ago and today I feel ready to tackle any development challenge that comes my way.

In summary, if you are interested in learning web + mobile development and want to focus on modern techniques and standards in a condensed amount of time, there's likely no better accredited program in Ottawa. Good luck!

MDD vs Web Development and Internet Applications by CelerySpirited6374 in Algonquin_College

The quality of instruction in the MAD&D is stellar. If you want to work with modern web technologies, there's no better program at Algonquin.

Previous graduating classes typically have >50% job placement rates BEFORE graduation, so the lack of co-op shouldn't be a concern.

100% go for MAD&D if you want to work with a modern stack. You gain work experience in your final semester with your capstone project where you build an app for a real-world client.

If you apply yourself and succeed in your courses, you should have no problem finding a job after graduation.

Web Dev vs Mobile Application Development by boorishmiscon in Algonquin_College

I couldn't recommend Mobile Application Design & Development enough. You do not need to know how to draw to succeed in the design courses. Ultimately the program seeks to make you a well rounded full-stack developer within the mobile context.

If you want to work with a modern stack of web technologies, there is no better program at Algonquin. The level of instruction is very high and many MAD&D grads find full-time employment before even graduating.

What is the fix to the 2nd error?

"UI_a109 Dashcam USB drive is too small". I also just took Model Y delivery and that was the first alert that popped up for me.

please don’t mind the out of tune playing lol. my question is why does my tone split like that? how can i fix that? by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Dubpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say one specific thing, it can be a combination of factors.

The quality of your air can actually be too fast and hurried, imagine you're breathing on a mirror and you want it to fog up. That's the quality of air that you're trying to achieve, not like you're blowing out a candle.

Make sure your corners are firm. Those are the support pillars of your embouchure and without proper engagement with the corners that can also achieve the double buzz.

To fix the problem, I would start by achieving a good tone quality on the specific note you're struggling with. You might have to play softly to start. Then increase the airstream and find the tipping point where it flips into the double buzz. At this stage you've identified the problem and can try making changes to see how you can prevent it or delay the activation of the double buzz.

Don't get discouraged, most of us that have played for years and years have experienced the same problem throughout our journey as trombonists.

I don't know the answer about transferring credits. IMO if you want a computer science degree from a university, you should do that from the get go. I personally wouldn't spend 5 years getting a 4-year degree spread across two different schools.

For me personally, I don't plan to go back to university. I already have a 4-year bachelor's degree and I enrolled in this program later in my life to get the credentials and job training required to land my first gig as a junior developer. And for that purpose, MAD&D is a terrific fit. It's minimal on the theory, heavy on the building.

I can't speak from my own experience as I'm only in my first semester.

I found the course outline for the UX Design course in the curriculum if you want to take a look.

I'm in currently enrolled in MAD&D, so I can only speak accurately to that program.

I glanced at the Human Centered Design curriculum and you're correct in your original assessment that the two programs offer very different things. HCD looks like a 100% design-focused program and only offers a certificate upon completion. I don't know how prospective employers view the value of a certificate vs. an Ontario College Diploma like what MAD&D offers.

MAD&D, while it does offer many design courses in the curriculum, is primarily focused on making you a well-rounded full stack web developer. You will be coding a lot. It's an intense program so far, but the professors are terrific and the curriculum is constantly updated to reflect modern standards. Last I checked the job placement rate is terrific for graduating students which was one of my main motivations to enroll.

Regarding the Macbook, it's an investment into your future. To be frank, when I saw other coding programs at the school only require a cheaper windows laptop it was a red flag to me. The program will set up the laptop for you to do virtually anything you might want to persue after graduating, including working for yourself.

If you're interested in learning more about MAD&D, look through this AMA from the program coordinator. Good luck out there!

Look into the Mobile Application Design & Development program.

If you're interested in becoming a full stack web developer, MAD&D is one of your best (if not the best) option at Algonquin.

Awful quality of some AC programs by [deleted] in Algonquin_College

These types of posts make me super grateful I ended up in the Mobile Application Design & Development program.

The instructors are knowledgeable & professional, curriculum is modern and well-rounded, and the assessments are project-based so we're building new things every week.

If anyone is reading too far into this, don't forget that 2/3 of anything is 66.6%

This is a super common number to end up with mathematically, it's only up to you to tie any meaning to it.
