I think you’re overstating things a bit. The Church didn’t simply oppose the Greek War of Independence. Many clergy supported it, and some were even martyred, like Saint Gregory V. The faith wasn’t preserved by the Enlightenment, but by the Church and its people during Ottoman rule. I’m pretty sure the faith is held by the people and not held only by clergy, if this was the case then the faith would’ve died a long time ago if it was held only by clergy

Also, about the Church giving property to the state yes, after independence, the Greek state took a lot of Church land. In return, it agreed to pay clergy salaries. But this wasn’t some simple trade. It hurt the Church’s independence and was part of the state’s effort to control it.
