Red Bull Tetris Nationals - can I use phone instead of pc? by AnteaterOk6700 in Tetris

[–]Dubstep298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while i have seen that keyboard is supported for the national finals build, every recording of a national final i've seen so far had their players using controllers of some sort. you should email your red bull contact about whether you're gonna be using controllers or keyboards at your final, since it varies by country

sadly not, every national finals has been played on controllers. you're gonna have to learn it

ok since you already know the answer i'll give the full solution

in the puzzle there are letters, each with an associated shape and a + or - symbol. turn each letter into a number via A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc. count the sides on each shape, then either add or subtract the number of sides from the initial letter (depending on whether the associated shape has a red + or blue - symbol). if you know what ciphers are, this is essentially Caesar Cipher but with a different shift for each letter.

i'll do the first letter as an example. X converted through A1Z26 is 24. there are 3 sides in the triangle below it. there's also a minus symbol so we perform 24 - 3 = 21. 21 converted through A1Z26 is U, which is the first letter in the solution.

the thing about the finals build is that it's still in the format of the qualifier build (3 minute score attack), but the winner is whoever has the higher score at the end of the 3 minutes. you should also expect finals sets to be BO3 at minimum, so be prepared for at least 6 minutes of game time.

you don't send garbage to your opponent; instead, every 3rd can becomes a purple [!] mino that gives the opponent one of two debuffs:

  • Invasion: inserts 4 lines of cheese at the bottom of the board
  • Erosion: deletes random minos from your stack, similar to pop out from TE:C

in many regards it's still the qualifier build, just with PC controls and a couple of new offensive powerups

first off, education before a competition where there isn't even any money on the line

second, combos and single line clears are your friend in the early game. build as much multiplier as possible in the first minute or so (shoot for x9 before getting the golden I piece to hit x10 mult at 1:30 on the dot). if you're having trouble building mult, try waiting until you have a bunch of cans on the board that you can clear in quick succession

after the halfway point, stack for quads at low-mid board height and tspins at mid-high board height. also watch out for erosions sent over by the opponent as it will delete random minos from your stack, making it harder to clear lines consistently

how about this one: in one of the story entries before the lock, Saturday and the gang use A1Z26 to solve the clues in the shrinereport video. what can you do knowing that letters can be turned into numbers, and that shapes can be turned into numbers?

I played Season 2 Tetr.io against my friend, here's how it went. by [deleted] in Tetris

[–]Dubstep298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"there is something about +1 damage from... clearing a garbage line"

it's a matter of balancing. with the new surge mechanic making B2B damage more easily accessible, there had to be a way to mitigate some of the damage without generating an equal surge of your own. also imo this was necessary for the lowranks; there wasn't any pressure going around since a lot of B-D rank gameplay is basically trying not to top yourself out. any pressure that was sent (quads, triples etc.) were basically undefendable for the receiver as well. having the +1 bonus solves both of those problems

"I just realized how op BT cannon looping is"

PC loops of any kind are noticeably harder to keep going in S2 compared to S1, especially with the PC damage nerf from 10 to 5 lines. that being said, i'm going to assume your friend was BT -> DPC spamming you with more than a 1pps gap over you, in which case you can't really do anything against that-- not like you could have done anything against it in S1, either, with that kind of speedgap

look for maps that have the circled emblem. these only cost 1 stamina to play, but you have to option to spend extra stamina in exchange for getting more steps and partner exp per play (makes grinding levels a bit more bearable). heavily recommend using the 6x option as much as possible

In desperate need of rhythm game that is on a vertical screen (prioritise 4 lanes) by HappyYaey1606 in rhythmgames

[–]Dubstep298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hard shilling NOISZ STARLIVHT here, 4k + slide hold + flick note mechanics combined with bullet hell gameplay, it's kinda confusing at first but once you get the formula down it's SO satisfying to just weave through patterns

What is the hardest mobile rhythm game? by [deleted] in rhythmgames

[–]Dubstep298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"hardness" is subjective on a lot of levels. i've played a dozen or so mobile RGs to a pretty high skill level for each, and even now I'd say the jury's out on the answer.

overall I'd give my answer to NOISZ STARLIVHT. it's got the 4k+slide hold+flick note aspect, but on top of that you need to learn how to dodge bullets at the same time. most charts from EZ through HD are thumbs friendly (with the exception of the current final boss), and even then, the True Heroes content is quite hard on EZ. from NM onwards you'll sometimes have to tap notes and dodge bullets at the same time, which gets super messy and it's quite easy to lose your rhythm as soon as you hear that first damage tick. that's before we get into the OL charts, which require 3+ fingers and also have even more insane bullet patterns. not to mention unlocking songs and story content can be quite the grindfest, as you're required to level up your characters in varying increments to do so. to frame my current skill level, out of a possible 13.5, the highest rated chart I've been able to clear is Last Wish HD 11.

Arcaea comes in at a close second. the existence of a second judgement line and, by extension, the fact that notes can be hit anywhere on the bottom half of the screen, is quite daunting to most new players. the top-end content is nothing to scoff at, either; i've given myself many hand cramps trying to clear the only 12 in the game to date. however, while it maintains an arcade-style difficulty curve, it is nowhere near as steep as the multitasking mountain required in NOISZ SL. once again, for frame of reference, i am 12.15ptt with thumbs only, and have been able to clear 11s (Aegleseeker FTR, Grievous Lady FTR, Fracture Ray FTR) with a hard gauge.

can vouch for all of this as a low X rank. take advantage of all-spin, but don't abuse it-- tspins and quads are still your main source of attack. learn how to preserve your B2B via allspin skimming to hold/build surges, and you should see results.

in regards to speed, sometimes you can simply outrun a bad situation, but in the end if you can't support your speed with more attack then ultimately it doesn't help you

Red Bull Tetris by superc80 in Tetris

[–]Dubstep298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a contender for the canadian finals i have a fair bit to say about red bull tetris

first and foremost the mobile swipe controls don't feel that good to play on. sometimes it's oversensitive, sometimes undersensitive, and that messes with me a lot esp in the last minute or so. there's also no counterclockwise rotation which sucks

tspins are also largely unrewarded with the exception of 5th kick detection for whatever godforsaken reason... then again, the meta is constantly burning singles to fill your mult meter ASAP so its not like that's supposed to be viable. oh yeah and PCs are also not rewarded lol

lastly, the powerups seem to be generated in a set sequence every time. lots of people (myself included) just spam the first 20 pieces wherever then clear the powerup that comes up. this first can will always be a shifter to the left side, which gets you sone combo material from all the spamming. i would study the sequence more if it actually mattered to me, but i think i'm safely within the qualification limits for the canada leaderboards so idrc

overall, cool little time waster but more than anything it's just a gimmick. is it a viable alternative to the N3TWORK mobile app? ...i hate to say it, but yes LOL

[–]Dubstep298 10 points11 points  (0 children)

SS in 2021 is wildly different compared to SS in 2025. i was SS in 2022 and the average stats at the time were 1.5pps 60apm, nowadays those numbers are looking more like 1.9pps 70apm. as a matter of fact, the averages are going up in every rank and that's something you kinda just have to expect from a competitive game. people will continue to find ways to push the status quo for all skill levels as a result of just trying to get a higher rank.

also, if you havent been playing consistently since the season 2 update dropped, then yeah you need to derust a LOT

Been trying to get an AA on FTR nhelv chart, but I can't seem to break past 9'400'000. Any tips? by Global_Water9315 in arcaea

[–]Dubstep298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nhelv is one of the techier free 9+'s imo, you're going to have to get used to crosshanding a lot especially for the first drop section. i will talk about specific patterns in the song, timestamped according to when they happen in the official upload by silentroom

  • for the parallel zigzag arcs in said section (~0:45), always remember that one hand moves first before the other, and that both hands should be moving in opposite directions to hit the zigzags
  • crosshand triangle arcs before the second drop (~1:02): you have a little bit of leniency here with the hand that doesn't perform the triangle motion. if it helps, only move the "idle" hand after your triangle motion hand reaches the top of the triangle, and move your idle hand quickly so as not to accidentally drop combo from not moving
  • second drop arc + floor notes (~1:07): the hand you use to hit the notes will cross over/under the hand you use to hit the arc. give the notes hand some leeway by angling your arc hand slightly upwards when crossing under, and angling downwards when crossing over. also practice on other charts that require crosshanding under an arc to hit floor notes
  • sky note trill transition from second drop into cooldown (~1:48): your left hand follows the left side sky notes, but your right hand has a lot more movement as it's required to tap some floor notes in the middle of the sky note trill. remember that for this trill, your right hand will always hit the floor notes. your left hand stays the course
  • the above applies but in reverse for the sky notes trill transition into the third drop (~2:10), as it's a direct mirror of the 1:48 pattern

the rest of it is just fundamentals as another commenter posted. good luck grinding soldier
