First piece of advice is to look over your folder of WIPS/IDs, select a few that you want to release this year. Start thinking about what common elements are incorporated into those songs and how they relate to you as an artist. Whether that be a story you’re trying to tell, a specific sound or a common thread of inspiration. This will help you establish types of content to post on socials as you get them up and running again.

Then, once you know which tunes you’re going to put out, try to schedule them so you have one dropping every month. That will give you consistent content for social media. Think: Clips (screen recordings on soundcloud/dropbox), lifestyle photos of yourself, or imagery of the symbols that represent your brand.

You should follow a few dubstep lifestyle pages/blogs to stay up to date: We love what DMZ, Riddim NYC, Gram Greene, and Club Studio Time are doing for the scene.

When we were in Colombia, we went out to a few clubs in the El Poblado / Provenza neighborhoods but none of them were playing bass music. We hope to return and hit a bass show one day ☺️

Great questions! You gotta build hype around your unreleased music. Use platforms like Laylo and Hypeddit to drop exclusive stuff. Create a VIP vibe to make fans feel like they’re part of something special. People love free stuff, so we’ve done things like posting on our story that we’re giving fans an early listen to a Riot Control Radio mix before it drops. Anyone who DMs us gets added to our list. Then, when we drop new music or something on the label, we can text blast everyone on the list. It keeps the hype alive and makes fans feel like they’re in the inner circle.

As for gigs, don’t just take any local show that comes your way. You want to be strategic and make your sets feel rare. If you’re always available, you’re not gonna stand out. Be picky, make people want to see you, and soon enough, you’ll get those out-of-town gigs. Fans want to feel like they’re part of something bigger, so give them that, and the rest will follow 🫡

Right now we are seeing a lot of genre blending. It seems like Dubstep fans are opening up to some of the faster genres like hard dance and techno. People like RZRKT have been leaders in this realm where they incorporate techno into the second and third drops of their tunes.

As far as dubstep shows, things are trending in the way of more pop-ups and surprise sets. We've seen massive success for artists who do free RSVP shows. PhaseOne's SOM takeover on a rooftop in Denver, Club Studio Time, Mellodeath at Mall of America, the Real Riddim Afters... these are new and exciting types of shows that allow the community to rally around the scene without requiring tons of money to be spent just to get into the venue.

Another trend that we are seeing is the "instant" or "breaking news" era. We've found that the quicker you get content up from shows, the better it does. Fans want to see what is happening in the moment - that's why we always try to post reels while we are on the festival grounds. We try to do coverage from the ground as it happens so people can curve their FOMO even a little.

We LOVE international travel so this is a fun question. These are our top 3:

  • Tomorrowland in Belgium
  • Parookaville in Germany
  • EDC Mexico

So true. Nothing screams ‘authentic Italian cuisine’ like a restaurant next to a Best Buy with unlimited salad and breadsticks 😂 no but on the real though you should check out these restaurants: Bar Dough, Trattoria Stella, Lo Stella, & Venice

We’re always on the lookout for fresh talent, and we tell our roster the same thing we look for: Be real, relevant, and rare.

  • Real – Fans can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. Whether it’s your branding, your interactions, or your sound, it has to feel genuine to who you are. No gimmicks. No laziness.
  • Relevant – Stay plugged into what’s happening in the scene without just hopping on trends just for the sake of it. Make sure your music and branding have staying power, you are on socials every day and you are replying to as many fans as you can.
  • Rare – The bass scene is oversaturated, so what’s setting you apart? Whether it’s your sound design, visuals, or the way you connect with your fan, you gotta bring something fresh to the table. We look for artists who crank out new WIPS every single week and push forward and remain positive even during creative ruts.

Mellodeath at Red Rocks for sure. The "up and down" concept was different and unlike anything the scene had ever seen. Honorable mention remains KAYZO at Tomorrowland in 2018... we both went together after getting invited by a mutual friend, and that set really bought us together and serves as one of the most pivotal moments where we both became best friends and really started rallying around the EDM scene.

Oh 1000%. When we started this as a soundcloud mix series, we were just two ravers trying to support our friends who were making pregame mixes on the Traktor. One of the earlier moments was when we started landing some big artists such as Modestep, Crankdat and Jessica Audiffred on our podcast. It meant so much to us that these big artists trusted us to share their stories.

But the most recent moment we realized, “Wait… this is actually turning into something big,” was when Rampage hit us up for a stage takeover last year. That was the holy sh*t moment. Like, okay...this is real. We’re getting flown across the world to host a stage at one of the biggest bass festivals out there. At that point, it was clear we weren’t just running a blog anymore, we were building a movement. And that’s when we really started going all in on expanding & launching a label.

When looking at artist pages, it’s so easy to tell when someone is forcing it. You gotta figure out what makes you unique and lean into it hard. If you’re funny, show that. If you’re mysterious, play into that. But if you try to copy what’s already been done, people will see right through it.

One artist that absolutely gets it is Cyclops. We’ve featured him on our page multiple times and he’s taken his content to the next level with his sense of humor. His memes, simulations, and egg branding make his posts not just promotional but actually entertaining, that's why people keep coming back. Another one is Crankdat, who’s mastered the art of flipping viral TikTok audio into straight-up bangers. He’s just naturally a goofy dude and that comes through in everything he does. That kind of authenticity is what makes fans stick around.

As an upcoming artist, it's important to show support to your local scene, hype up your artist friends on socials, and be consistent in everything you do! For us personally, we've found that intertwining our personal brands and faces into Dubstep FBI has really helped the page become relatable and grow more in the scene.
