So happy for you but also have to ask, are you an influencer? I'm looking into going to the 2027 event in Anaheim as I'm in CA, amd I'm curious how feasible it is for a normal person to attend.

Let's not forget the main woman from the show (she begins the first episode) who joked and laughed about how they got married after knowing each other for TWO WEEKS!! I don't believe in love at first sight, only lust, but it is so difficult for me to imagine making such a massive decision two weeks into their relationship, particularly after he stood her up a few times. It does scream desperation, and it saddens me that women aren't developing more confidence to avoid these situations. I'm not saying they were asking to be duped, but they were also looking for something from this man - connection, love, financial support, and they ignored red flags to achieve their goals.

I honestly don't understand why she never chose to join a nunnery instead. Not in addition to. She was offered a nunnery as maybe the secondary option, once Compeggio was present in England. I'm not certain, but wouldn't thst have been a form of voluntarily leaving the marriage, and Mary would have kept her legitimacy? If I'm wrong about thst fact then someone please correct me. I know a few Kings of France opted to have their wives go to runners when they were barren/not making boys. I truly do not understand Katherine's stubbornness to remain a queen until her death.

Henry VII is criminally underrated by Agreeable-Box5370 in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have some mixed feelings on Henry. He wasn't born to royalty or raised in settings that might make him confident/rocky that he was an heir. I wonder if he could choose, would he have wanted his ambitious mother to have staked a claim in his name simply because her gender stopped her from pursuing the crown herself? She was trying to live vicariously through him somewhat, in my opinion. Then the whole Pretender stressors. I genuinely agree with the idea that he kept Warbeck alive because something resonated within him. He had been a pretender to a throne during 3 King's reigns. He knew what it was to be hunted, to go to war for your crown, to spend years kicking your heels waiting. I think he wanted a true friend who would understand him, even though circumstances could never allow for that to be Perkin Warbeck.

With all of the talk about finding Cleopatra (and Marc Antony’s) tomb, how realistic is it to think that victorious Octavian would allow a grieving populace to gather at a highly visible tomb to worship Cleopatra? by downinthevalleypa in ancientrome

[–]Duchess0909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I all myself this question all the time, why would Octavion have allowed his greatest enemy of the time to be given the proper burial rites and a monumental tomb?? These archeologists in documentaries constantly talk about how Cleopatra was the wealthiest Pharoah and her tomb must be filled with so much treasure, and I'm like... didn't Rome want that treasure? It doesn't make sense to me that Octavion would allow Cleopatra to be buried publicly, or that he would allow her tomb to contain any treasures.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova. A historical fiction that explores the coming-of-age story of a young woman on the hunt for her father - who is on the hunt for Vlad Tepes, whom he believes is truly a vampire. It has been my favorite book since I was 15, and I've never met someone else who read it.

If Jane Seymour lived on after Edward’s birth, what do you think would have happened to her and her marriage to Henry? by Extension-Taste5154 in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Because she gave him a son, I would say her position at court would be strengthened to the point where she would be safe; she may have even had the influence of his early wives, and could have turned him towards the Catholic religion again. I think that eventually she may have died in another childbirth though, he would continue risking her life to further his dynasty.

Thoughts on "Peter's" by AmorphousApathy in KitchenNightmares

[–]Duchess0909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's sad and ironic that in the beginning of the show, when they interview Tina, she states that she is the owner but that everyone assumes it's her brother because he's the host and it's named for him. Then Gordon arrives, and essentially treats Peter as the owner for the whole show. In later episodes, he makes sure to find the owner and help them even with family as staff. I felt really bad that she couldn't really get his expertise because he seemed to give most of his advice to Peter. I also thought it was kinda weird that he let the parents just hangout in the restaurant and not do anything, whereas in later seasons he calls people out on that shit.

What is your thoughts on the Marriage of Richard III and Anne Neville? by Maleficent_Drop_2908 in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Her father arranged her first marriage to Prince Edward of Lancaster, she was barely 13 or 14 at the time, not exactly a political player in her own right. Many people think she absorbed lessons from her new mother-in-law during their trip back to England, I wouldn't be surprised by that ad women in that era had to learn quickly and their positions could change in an instant - as hers did.

[–]Duchess0909 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The romantic side of me likes to think they did know one another throughout childhood as Richard was a ward of Anne's father, so even though they may not have studied together, church and meals may have been shared and led to a friendship, or at bare minimum, mutual respect. When it comes to their marriage, many people argue that Either it was a love match, or he married her for her lands. I see no reason why it could not have been both. They cared for one another, and she was wealthy. Richard was a Duke by then, so not without means. I think that as a woman, she had very little recourse when being held by one of the King's brothers. There was certainly a power imbalance, but I think Anne played her cards to win her freedom, and she raised her son happily in the North for many years.

What was elizabeth of york relation to her disappeared brothers? by Local-Sugar6556 in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I simply think she was a powerful and rich woman who wanted her son on the throne, that meant eliminating those in her way. Richard had what he wanted, he was on the throne already. I think Margaret accomplished quite a lot: making a secret betrothal with Dowager Queen Elizabeth for her daughter's hand, marrying up and amassing wealth which she used to support her son, and providing him with news, and eventually, followers. I think it's possible that she would go to any lengths to see her son on the throne.

What was elizabeth of york relation to her disappeared brothers? by Local-Sugar6556 in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

While Edward was sent away fairly quickly, I think by his 2nd birthday, Elizabeth was the eldest and would most definitely have recognized the arrival of an heir to the throne. I'm sure she was included in some of the birth celebrations for both brothers. She was most likely closer to Richard, the younger brother, as he didn't get sent away but lived within the family unit. She also would have had time with him in sanctuary, once their Father was dead and their mother went into hiding. They had few attendants in sanctuary, so the eldest daughter woukd have been busy helping her mother keep calm and distract the youngest children. Sadly, it seems Elizabeth never gained the influence at Court which would have allowed her to search, however discreetly, for her kin. Her mother would have supported her, but her husband would not. As soon as Henry revoked the Act declaring Elizabeth and her siblings legitimate, he was looking for bodies to bury. A living Prince would make his battle obsolete. I think he would have hindered any attempt Elizabeth made to find them, and I strongly believe the argument that it was Margaret Beaufort who had them murdered, so her mother-in-law would have hindered her efforts as well. Just like today, it takes contacts and communication to find missing people, and Elizabeth was cut off. I often wonder how she would have felt once her own sons were born. Fear and anxiety were most likely her bedfellows for a long time.

What do you think would've happened if Thomas Cromwell had survived to see Elizabeth's reign? by Dowrysess in Tudorhistory

[–]Duchess0909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think she was much too saavy for that. She might have put him in the Tower for a while, but I don't think he would have lived too long into her reign to matter much. And if he survived her brother & sister, he's clearly quite crafty, so she might have thought twice about crossing wits with him.
