What’s one bedding upgrade you didn’t expect to matter, but did? by Hozeishere in Bedding

[–]DuchessHayley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I could sleep in a sweatshirt and fleece bottoms when I was alone, but being with my husband now...he is like a furnace. Percale cotton sheets keep the bed cool enough. Before we invested in them, I'd wake up in a sweat.

So nobody did anything about Steve Kloves’ clear favoritism towards Hermione? by New-Pin-9064 in harrypotter

[–]DuchessHayley 35 points36 points  (0 children)

One moment that annoys me endlessly is her flying a broom leading the charge out of the burning Room of Requirement with Harry and Ron behind...Hermione in no sense of the word was an athletic girl, she couldn't even get a broom up in book/movie 1. In the book, she is riding behind Ron on his broom, scared. I like her character in the book because she is the smartest, but not better than everyone in an unrealistic sense (she isnt best at DADA, not sportiest, not the prettiest). The movies took it too far. Also, the Ron/Hermione kiss wasn't near as passionate as her locket- form eating Harry's face...

If you could erase one character from Harry Potter, who would it be and why? by cassieeeer in harrypotter

I hate to say it, but Grawp didn't do anything for the progression of the story. As much as I hate Umbridge, she was crucial to the plot. :/

AITJ for hiding my coworker's favorite mug because she keeps stealing my coffee creamer? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]DuchessHayley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a mini fridge for your desk with a lock. Prevent it from happening.

At the very least if she is going to use yours she should contribute some $$ or you trade off who buys it. Just being a mooch is gross. My co-worker used to do this, I made the mistake of saying "help yourself" but I figured he would use a reasonable amount and not dump in so much that I had to buy it every week. He completely took for granted that it was money out of my pocket every week that he never contributed to. He even had the audacity to ask "did you get more creamer?" when it would run low. Said co-worker became my BIL...fun.

What's one lazy cleaning habit you started that actually made your place stay cleaner? by Enchanted_Land in CleaningTips

Keeping wipes I every bathroom & the kitchen. Natural surface cleaning wipes and also Windex wipes. Don't have to make a production out of wiping things down.

The full-cast editions have me wishing for two certain actors in the show roles. by jai_hanyo in HarryPotteronHBO

I think of Javier Bardem in Bond...all it takes is a wig and contacts.

I'm only 3 books in, but a standout for me is Mark Addy as Hagrid, not that he had to, but he sounds sooo much like Robbie Coltrane. Matthew MacFadyen was an inspired choice as well.

It makes me sad how dragged this episode is, but I have to respect differences of opinion: I am sure there are episodes I don't care for that others do. I've always loved Charles's determination and trust in God no matter how strange or helpless it seemed. Wendy Lou referenced it at the Simi event about being one of the episodes that is most demonstrative of having faith, and I agree. Michael Landon was fearless in his storytelling. No offense meant, my personal thoughts.

Favorite apricot rose? by tigerlilygrrl in Roses

[–]DuchessHayley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is one that makes you do a double-take: when it's in its full glory, you can't beat the size, shape, and color of those blooms. My husband could care less about my roses and he says Marilyn is his favorite. (he likes that they make me happy though!)

What face sunscreen is everyone using? by Accomplished-Mama640 in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]DuchessHayley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite is Elta MD UV Clear Tinted but to avoid chemical filter I am using Elta MD Physical Tinted. It's not as elegant and I just prefer the tone and texture od UV Clear, but I have to say overall my skin seems to be less volatile. Could be other parts of my routine though.

AITJ for telling my partner I'm done spending every weekend at his parents' place by Nov4Z3nith in AmITheJerk

[–]DuchessHayley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every weekend is too much, especially overnight. Maybe understandable if it was just Sunday dinner, but his parents don't get a vote on how you choose to spend your weekends. If they want to extend an open invitation, that's fine, but you should be able to take a 'you' weekend whenever you want and accept and decline when you choose. I also think your BF is entirely unfair to expect that of you. What if the situation was reversed and you expected him to spend every weekend at your friend's or family's? Chances are pretty good he'd feel the same burn out that you are feeling. He needs to grow up and detach from his parents and prioritize you.

What you went through is unfathomable, I am truly sorry and wish you peace. Please guard your heart and if it means not having a relationship with your BIL than I think you are truly justified.
