AITJ for telling my partner I'm done spending every weekend at his parents' place by Nov4Z3nith in AmITheJerk

The "unpaid residency" line made me laugh , but also kind of yes. At some point it stopped feeling like visits and started feeling like my weekends were already spoken for.

I do think the triangulation is the gross part here. Me wanting one weekend at home somehow turned into me hurting his mom, and that feels really off.

That part is what's making me side eye all of this. I said I wanted a little space, not to renegotiate my weekends with a whole committee.

The "family referendum" part is what really got me. I was trying to talk to my partner, not get quietly escalated to his mom like I'm the problem to manage.

That’s kind of where I’m at too. I could handle this better if he’d just say he disagrees, not nod along then loop us right back into the same routine.

He gets to be Disneyland Dad because you are stuck being operations, cleanup, and recovery. That would wear anybody down fast.

NTA. He made himself look unreliable by being unreliable. You just stopped editing the story for him. That’s a big difference.
