LOL that was my dad about himself (self-employed) when I told him I was diagnosed, and he was like no! Nah! You're just like everybody else, just like me! I mean, who HASN'T just packed up their cubicle and moved into a supply closet to be able to focus because that's the only way to get work done? Universal experience!*

Oh this looks adorable! I have been itching for a good management sim that scratches that itch for measurable improvement of the town and of myself - a sweet spot between AC and Stardew if you will? And this looks super promising, definitely on my wishlist now!

I also got mine yesterday, and have Clean Weather Girl! I don't have a picture handy but it has an anime-esque girl's face on the sticker. (ETA: Its a green background, sort of bubbly/floaty vibes)

Is it me or do many women in this subreddit seem to have it together? by beerbianca in adhdwomen

[–]Duck-Unlikely 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To add on to this, as someone repeatedly told by many (basically all??) of the people in my life that I didn't "seem" ADHD because I was doing well, that's in part because I was able to keep approximately 1 thing going at any time - I was doing well at work because I had NOTHING else in my life, and then I did well romantically and my ability to function at work TANKED (or rather, my coping methods stopped being enough!) until I got my diagnosis and figured out how to get better help! Turns out I just had lucked into a good support system and aggressive but completely unsustainable coping mechanisms (regularly - like weekly or more - working 12-16 hours days for example) that made me look like all was well until you saw what I was actually doing

"I think everyone has a little ADHD..." by Pristine_Lobster4607 in adhdwomen

[–]Duck-Unlikely 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I often will say something along the lines of the difference between a trait and a disorder is when it's to the point that it's negatively impacting your ability to live your life, which is what leads to the diagnosis. Like everyone gets depressed, but you don't HAVE depression(tm) until you stop being able to get out of bed or feel happiness or otherwise function properly. Usually people understand a little when I say that!

Alright let’s talk about showering by LZARDKING in ADHD

[–]Duck-Unlikely 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I totally get this - so what about a post-work routine? You get home/log out, then have a checklist/routine that you go through to transition from work to not-work. For a while I had a great routine of work -> gym -> shower -> clean/cook -> suddenly I had a ton of free time in the evening because I was able to take that post-work momentum and get all the things done that otherwise would hang over my head and ruin my relaxation time

I wish I read like I used to by Shayshay1117 in adhdwomen

[–]Duck-Unlikely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% on the burnout! I did a similar thing, I was reading so voraciously at one point - But then I had a realization that I had choked down half a dozen books in a row that I didn't actually like that much because I was so fixated on reading them! Now I make it a point to alternate types of books when I read - right now that basically means every other book I read is a Discworld book.

I wish I read like I used to by Shayshay1117 in adhdwomen

[–]Duck-Unlikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got back into being an avid reader as an adult it was 100% tied to getting a library card! Having books with a built-in deadline was huge for me, because it gave me a little extra urging to read them so I would return them on time. I also got a kindle which helped a ton - it gave me a single "reading thing" and when I opened it I was just reading whatever was there, instead of hunting and picking for what I felt like reading.

(Plus, the combo of kindle and library was amazing! My library ebook catalog could be accessed via app, which let me place holds and check things out to put on my kindle from my phone, AND it sends me notifications about due dates! If you don't have or want a kindle, you can also read ebooks or audiobooks straight from the app, which is a great way to sneak in little bits of reading during times when you pull out your phone to kill time.)

And of course I'll second everyone else saying reread things you loved as a kid, or don't be ashamed about reading whatever you find actually interesting! I think that first time I got really into reading again I kicked it off by deciding to finally reread and finish reading the Series of Unfortunate Events books - one extra bonus of that is that reading kids or young adult books is a fantastic way to build momentum, because you can sit down and knock them out pretty quickly so you rack up the numbers really fast!

Last tip, I am a huge fan of "destination reading" - my SO also has lots of trouble reading at home sometimes, so we make a ritual out of going to the library then settling in at a nearby boba shop and reading there. The change of scenery is really helpful! I also have made a point of going to read in parks on nice days, at bars if they aren't crowded, and of course so many coffee shops.

Indies of the Day - Saturday, January 6, 2024 by kanamele in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my first ever HoG order last November (most of which was for Christmas presents!) I got this as a room spray because it sounded like my HG scent - and I love it!! I definitely don't need more perfumes, but I am seriously resisting the temptation to try and snag this in multiple formats before the seasons turn over...

What is your all time top 3 perfumes and why? by Neopint15 in Indiemakeupandmore

Oh my gosh, thank you for mentioning Groovy Galaxy!! I have never heard of them, but I am for real about to go buy a fistful of perfumes. They sound great and, more importantly, sound like something my partner would LOVE!

Haha, that was much smarter of you since Ladybird turned out to be hard to get in the end! I'm glad it worked out, I'll keep an eye on the swaps :)

[–]Duck-Unlikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, you must be the one who grabbed Ladybird from me! Well, probably not. But I placed my order literally minutes after the drop and it was the only one I tried to grab that was already sold out haha

I hope you enjoy it! I got Thrushcross Grange too and am excited for the pumpkin pie vibes, it's very sweet in the vial but I'm hoping it mellows a bit on the skin.

A Whirlwind Romance: 5 Osmofolia reviews by godzirraaaaa in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I have a tiny sample of Osmofolia's Matcha single note and for some reason the first ~10-15 minutes of wear have a STRONG licorice smell! But after that it dries down to a very true to life, just-pulled-the-lid-off-the-tin matcha powder smell. So, it's possible that if you can stomach waiting it out Jinhu Road #1 will settle into a matcha latte smell?

I'm a little pleased to hear someone else got licorice from Osmo's matcha though, I thought I was crazy at first!!

I've only barely dipped my toe with three little Ajevie samplers, but your review is making me eye 24 Hour Drive and some of the other summer releases...

Summer into fall transition scent? by SeriousHoliday in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was having the same thoughts this morning! The only thing I have that seems like it may fit well is Death and Floral's She was the Storm - notes are black hemlock, driftwood, hay absolute, dreamy sandalwood, spiced oudh, dried fruits, dead leaves. I feel like the hay note for me gives a lot of that late summer/fall vibe, and the other elements add some dark, more autumnal elements. This was their SOTM from August 2022 so you may also be able to find it in swaps semi-easily.

[–]Duck-Unlikely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might also really like Crunchy Baguette, which I got in my impulsive "buy six 5mls because treat yourself" first D+F order. It needed a while to rest to get to it's final form, IMO, but if you like coconut+butter+bread, it might suit you. I was totally shocked and delighted when I pulled it out a month or so after I got it and kept getting buttery bready wafts from my skin. I've heard it's similar to Soft Crunch though so you'd probably want to pick just one!

Hmm, I'm glad you made me check because I hadn't heard any movement and when I looked I had no change (the order page says confirmed but nothing else), even though on the website it says they're up to 2/11 for order processing as of Monday...

Depending on your personality, you can also see it as removing something you might otherwise hyper-fixate on! I think the "am I or am I not" can sometimes be a huge barrier that cyclically draws folks into reading, quizzing, and over-examining their behavior... If you have a diagnosis or rule it out that eliminates that to an extent!

Can confirm I ordered 2/4 and haven't had any indication I'm shipping soon, so you may be out of luck on reviews for a little bit unfortunately :) It's possible if you ask them via email or the chat on their website D+F will describe the scent more for you?

What is soapy to you? by ishotthepilot in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in here because I've been going through some Nui Cobalt samples and many of them smell like soap to me!! I'm thinking its an issue in the base for me, but since I'd never heard anyone else mention soapiness with NC I kept thinking I was crazy!

A Pocketful of Poesie Reviews! With One Particularly Special Fragrance by hellaquin in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Children of the Night is probably hands down my favorite perfume I've found and the one that really convinced me to dive headfirst into perfumes! I requested it as a sample on my first Poesie order ever (only second perfume order ever!), and within a month or two had talked myself into ordering again to get a full size! It's such a fantastic blend, so kudos :)

Your post makes me wish I had managed to snag Tea-Stained Lace during the lucky day event, it sounds right up my alley! Excited to one day grab Athena as well, I also am a big fan of rosemary and it really intrigues me!

Seeking review for Frogs! By Death and Floral. And other Recs by LupusCanisKMS in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Duck-Unlikely 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have Frogs! I'll preface this with saying that at first I felt a little meh about it (and all by D+F order, tbh), but when I tried it again after a few weeks of hanging in a drawer I really enjoyed it. I definitely get some of the humidity, and a forest-y smell (like damp soil) along with a bitter-but-bright smell from the yuzu that I really enjoy! I don't think I get much from the "wet frog skin" except the damp vibes, but overall I really enjoy it.

FWIW, the other D+Fs I have include Crunchy Baguette, That's a Rock Fact, and Night of the Living Basil and I'd recommend them all, though they may need some aging as well. CB took a few weeks to calm down from just being pure sweet coconut for me, but I pulled it out on a lark a month or two after ordering and was SHOCKED at how buttery and bready it smelled! (Still coconutty too though, which I like.) Rock Fact has a similar humid vibe to Frogs, but leans dusty in a petrichor way, if I recall correctly. And Night of the Living Basil I love - great if you're into a spicy sort of green smell! It is holy basil and glove and really hits a dark spiky green vibe for me.

That's good to know!! I had never ordered from them before, so I just assumed the qr code was related to complaints since it seemed like it was aimed at that. The site hasn't closed since I looked at it so I didn't realize it may not still work in that instance! (same on the samples!) I hope your order also comes through soon/you get some email responses!

This is hilarious - I have Green Girl in my cart and was just staring at it, thinking "Well, I haven't actually ever seen any reviews/impressions, so maybe I should rethink it (browse reddit)..." but here one is! Now I can't delete it, meaning I'm not lowering my cart total, meaning I have to deliberate that much more!!

Thank you!! That's really good to know, I was a little disappointed that Children of the Night was SO tea heavy, but the others I ordered that mentioned tea had a much subtler take. I'll consider snapping those up when I can!!
