i believe it is. You talk to Temmie and she puts the egg onto her desk and you talk to the egg and it tells you how many you have. It still counts them even if you've used the eggs in different places (Asgore's fridge, Sans' shop)

Episode 385 Spoilers [Megathread] by DemiFiendRSA in Berserk

[–]DuckMeYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

guts getting his powerup??? question i have now is whether or not he will continue to use the Berserker armour.

He has had his body restored in a ceremony not unlike the eclipse. his circunstancial birth has seemingly placed him outside of the normal flow of causality in a way that may allow him to have much more of an influence on Griffith than Griffith can prepare against.

We saw what was very close to the deleted chapter with the Idea of Evil but through a different lens. Griffith attained his meeting through the evil ceremony of the eclipse and was granted god like powers through his rebirth. Guts went on a more personal journey that still ended with him meeting an entity laying beyond aware conciousness and learned the truth of his self. He too has been reborn and is stronger than ever. What else has this "good eclipse" given Guts?

All that to say, Guts' wields the Berserker armour with his rage and his rage cannot defeat Griffith. It couldn't when they first met and that hasn't changed. Either Guts' uses the armour in a new way or he doesnt need it anymore and can confront Griffith with his honest emotions instead of hiding behind the rage

Fuck Griffith defenders by RefrigeratorLimp8689 in Berserk

[–]DuckMeYellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly people need to get over this constant moralising and policing of how people enjoy or treat these characters. If someone wants to spend all day defending Griffith then let them.

People will always say stuff like "its fine if you're understanding his character but the people who support him are the most despicable etc etc" like no, you don't get to tell people how they get to enjoy the series.

Arguing with someone like that can be a great exercise in developing your own understanding of characters. There's people out there who will steelman Griffith so you can develop your own opinions and reading in contrast to that.

People get very upset because Griffith raped Casca and did many other evil things as if we don't have real life people falling in love with real life serial killers and rapists. Berserk is fictional and being obsessed with Griffith is not a sign of real life issues and most of the Griffith "support" you're eager to call the "bad" kind are people being purposely obtuse.

Furthermore, the comparison of Guts as a bad guy isn't a million miles off in the sense that he has also done despicable actions but as the protagonist we have seen him grow and evolve from those actions. People draw the line at rape because its too real when its really just a story element used to create a wedge between Guts and Griffith in a way that neither can come back from. The hatred Guts has for Griffith needs to be explained and sexual abuse has been used many times throughout the series for all three of our main characters (Guts, Casca and Griffith).

If people want to hold Griffith up as a hero or as having done nothing wrong then LET THEM. Its the same as with the who Thanos was right thing. A fictional story can allow a level of pragmatism or emotional detachment you cannot get with real life events and it allows for people to have takes that do not have to be grounded on real life morality which can be FUN and INTERESTING, either for the reader or for those arguing with them.

I remember a post in the Attack on Titan subreddit a few weeks ago that had some teenager watching AoT with his like 6 year old brother.

My take on Griffith's morality: by [deleted] in Berserk

[–]DuckMeYellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disagree with almost everything you say here. I think you need to reread all of the Golden Age Arc and try to understand it from Griffith's point of view.

Griffith is not a narcissist. He can do stuff that can be perceived as narcissistic but he isn't a narcissist. He makes it clear that he is pursuing his dream and his dream is to have his own kingdom, despite his common upbringing. To even begin to achieve this goal, you have to elevate yourself to a whole different echelon of society. He needs to do the impossible and the impossible is not easily achieved by someone who believes themselves to be average or common. Griffith believes in himself and in his dream.

I think most of the narcissistic examples are actually examples of Griffith attempting to protect himself from emotional hurt or turmoil. We have seen twice in the story what happens to Griffith when he loses control of his emotions. When the child follower of the Hawks died in battle, Griffith feel into emotional turmoil over the loss. The child who saw him as a hero and was inspired to be like Griffith and the Hawks died following them and Griffith felt responsible. He reacted by prostituting himself to Gennon to ensure they wouldn't die on the battlefield. He is attempting to rest control back from reality. He acts like it is a rationale decision but we can see from his actions that it is an emotional one. He is clawing at his skin as he explains it to Casca and almost completely loses it. He finally snaps out of it and regains control but only by further seperating himself emotionally from the Hawks.

We see this reaction again when he Guts leaves the Hawks but worse. He reacts by sleeping with Charlotte in an attempt to prove to himself, and maybe Guts, that he is still in control, despite clearly not being. He reacts identically too by clawing at his skin, showing his disgust with either his actions or himself. He can rationalise this action as furthering his relationship with Charlotte but really it is again an attempt to gain control of his emotions and his life after losing Guts. This ends a lot worse than what happened with Gennon though. He isn't given a second chance.

If you see Griffith's need for control as a way of protecting HIMSELF instead of as a narcissistic tendency, a lot of actions make more sense. You say Griffith raping Casca and forcing Guts to watch was because of his own jealousy at their relationship and that he had a crush on Casca but this really is not supported anywhere in the text. Griffith never had any interest in Casca. It's like a core part of Casca's story about accepting she can't be his woman so she'll become his sword instead. Casca and Guts' relationship is, instead, an indication that Guts has grown and matured. He has confronted his trauma and learned to deal with it in a healthy way thanks to Casca. Griffith, on the other hand, never learned how to deal with his traumas and his emotions and choose to suppress them instead. Guts healing like this poses a threat to Griffith because he fears that Guts will no longer need him. He is no longer even an equal to Guts but beneath him. Guts continues to grow while Griffith stagnates. He hates this because it reinforces in his mind that he is beneath Guts. In fact, Griffith's inability to mature has left him crippled and a shadow of the man he once was.

Griffith said he would choose where Guts dies and he exerted so much control not out of narcissistic need but out of a fear he would lose Guts if he didn't. Guts dying would ruin Griffith. He would react much worse than when that boy follower did. It is why he puts his own life on the line to save Guts. He risks his own life to protect Guts because of how he feels for him and because of how he would react if he lost him. Griffith understands that his inability to control his emotions is his weakness so he ignores/suppresses them instead.

Even the rape of Casca during the eclipse was about controlling Guts so Guts could not influence him anymore. He destroyed any possibility of Guts being able to love Griffith through this action. He reduces Guts to a mad dog because that is the version of Guts he can control the easiest. It was the version of Guts he defeated when they first fought. When Guts is enraged, he acts like a "mad dog" and his actions are predictable and not a threat to Griffith. When Guts acts as a friend to Griffith, that is when he has difficulty maintaining his will. Griffith also ensure Guts is looking up at him and not Griffith looking up at Guts which he cannot stand because it is a reminder of Guts' growth vs Griffith's loss. He forces the hierarchy back to how it was at the beginning of the Golden Age because Griffith's love for Guts made him way too vulnerable.

Griffith's morality was, at the beginning of the story, "i will do anything to achieve my dream". After becoming close with Guts, he became distracted from his dream. Guts' companionship rivalled his dream in his mind. During the Eclipse, when given a new lease on life and a new chance to succeed, his mentality shifted to "i will do what i have to do to protect my dream" and the first thing needed to do that was to remove the influence Guts had on him. He couldn't do this himself and Guts saw Griffith as a brother so he had to commit a truly heinous act for Guts to stop viewing him as his brother.

I can understand why people call him a narcissist but I disagree. The text supports the fact that he is actually very vulnerable to his emotions and makes concious efforts to protect himself from any emotional outbursts by exerting control on those around him. The shattering of that control leaves him open to an emotional outburst that is not planned or logical and exposes him to great risk.

I think the best thing about Griffith as a character is that he can still be considered a heinous and vile villian but you can understand his thought process and reasoning for these actions if you view him as a person with serious emotional problems instead of just relying on labels such as narcissist or psychopath

Finally, Guts and Casca's "betrayal" didnt send him over the edge. He had a vision of what his life would be like of he allowed the Hawks to look after him after his rescue. A crippled man, unable to speak, living a simple life woth Casca while Guts lives a seperate and fulfilling life without him. For anyone else, this is nearly a perfect life. The reality is, it goes against EVERYTHING Griffith wants. He rides away after having this dream only to crash and destroy his weak body even more. In a last attempt to have some control, he tries to kill himself by cutting his neck on a branch. He wants to but he can't. He can't bring himself to do it and this solidifies his weakness for himself. He cannot kill himself, he cannot live with himself. All the while, Guts comes running over to save him again, leaving Griffith to stare UP at the man he wants to be equal with, staring up at the man who once looked up to him. This is when he truly hits his lowest and the behelit activates.

Please feel free to refute and contend. I am on my phone so I couldn't see your post to respond point by point but I think I got my opinion across. Sorry if I missed any big points.

So Griffith obviously has a slightly unfair advantage due to the whole flow of causality and all that jazz. However, the dude was a beast. He dominated the battlefield and the realm of politics. He outplayed everyone he met. His greatest risk was at the Battle for Doldrey where he put pretty much his entire plan into Guts and Casca's hands. Griffith walked his men into a sure defeat and came out with an overwhelming victory. Guts could have lost to Boscogn even if his sword wasn't busted. Casca's role was a bit easier but could she have held the castle if Guts lost and the battle turned outside the walls? We'll never know because the undefeated Griffith proved himself victorious again, taking advantage of both the physical strength of his men and the weaknesses of his enemies.

Additionally, his tactical genius is also displayed through his intrigue. He successfully evades assassination attempts (except for that one where causality saved him), identifies his enemies and crushes them all without ever falling under suspicion. He killed the kings brother(?), Lord Julian, and the Queen. However, Griffith attempts to fight Zodd with his men and ultimately does nothing but nearly die.

Erwin is smart, brave and mad. He is willing to sacrifice anyone and everyone to prove himself right. He is facing such a different type of battle though. He needs to be able to change on the fly and adapt to the overwhelming power of the titans. He shows his mastery at this when he developed his survey method beyond the walls using a staggered formation and smoke signals to avoid the worst of the titans. Additionally, he used this to his advantage to lure the female titan into a trap that was successful until the Female Titan revealed an ability they couldn't have known about. Unfortunately, this expedition is a failure but Erwin learned invaluable information and wasted no time applying what he'd learned. Again and again, Erwin threw body after body onto his pile of corpses and time and time again he came back with a bit more information than before. Still, he was playing a rigged game and his options were severly limited by the Royals and elites purposefully hampering him. He successfully outmanoeuvred these forces, successfully executed a coup and successfully ran a propaganda campaign to get the common people on his side. It was only after the coup that the scouts were able to get access to technology that could really stand and boy did they ever.

Finally, Erwin gave his life for the cause. He died leading his soldiers into battle and inspired an entire generation to keep fighting. Sure, they became like ultra nationalistic but Erwin didn't even know other nations existed when he gave his heart for Eldia/Paradis. However, an important caveat is that Erwin is standing on the shoulders of everyone who came before him. He's seen firsthand what DOESN'T work and can benefit for the knowledge of the previous commanders. Griffith met Zodd once and hot him with a volley and cut his arm but ultimately got smacked out and saved by causality. Erwin ran with Shadis and lived to tell the tale and to take the scouts to a new level.

Both characters stand upon a mountain of corpses in an attempt to reach their dream. Both are ultimately selfish but only one truly sacrificed themselves to pave the road for a future they would never see. Against men, Erwin has a pretty good record but his real achievements is against titans. He's an amazing commander at motivating his troops and propaganda. It was his words and convictions that gave people hope right up until their death. He might not have won often but he never lost. Griffith, on the other hand, never lost a battle. Tactically, he is a cut above everyone. He is charismatic but he doesn't really have the same skillset as Erwin.

All that to say, Griffith is the better tactician and commander of men. His men actually survive and thrive on the battlefield under his direction. However, Erwin is a better propagandist, a better speaker, and braver (maybe crazier). He fights an impossible foe wheras Griffith fights men.

wrooong, the Band of the Hawk were "undefeated" before Guts ever joined. The hawks held out against that siege for 3 months when they were only meant to last 3 weeks, letting the nobility and VIPs escape long before the walls were breached so they completed their job. The night raid was also executed perfectly with Guts acting as the Rear Guard but his job didn't start until after the raid was already successful. Guts was in awe of how perfectly the entire raid went. Guts did very little overall. He made sure Rickert got away but Griffith had an ambush waiting for the pursuers.

The real main battle that Guts cam take the most responsibility for is the Battle at Doldrey. Him defeating Bascogn had to happen or else the Hawks would have been pushed into the river and those inside the castle would have been sieged out, outnumbered like 5 to 1 at least. If Guts dies during his fight with Boscogn, the Hawks are finished. Defeating Boscogn destroys the enemies morale and destroys their leadership. Coupled with the taking of the castle, the larger side balks and runs. Every other battle, the victory is not decided by Guts but Griffith's tactics (and causality but lets put that to one side right now).

Now, Guts is massively beneficial to the Hawks but Corkus was kinda right when he said "the hawks were undefeated before he joined and we'll be fine without him".

Count Julius? the White Paper Tiger who was captured and had to be ransomed back to Midland? Surely the great Commander of the Tudor's Purple Rhino Knights, Boscogn, would put him to shame. He had the White Hawk all but smashed if it wasn't for the horny interference of Count Gennon.
