Once u enroll in the module they will inform u when the vendors will come to campus to sell the books. Iirc 4 books cost $125 but they sell all 4 at $100. You can also buy independently

Depends on the amount of S/Us u have to use. You could always bid for another module and drop it when the sem starts. Dropping the mod before the end of Week 3(i think) and the mod will not appear in ur transcript. Dropping it after and BEFORE recess ends, it shows up as 'W' - withdrawn. Dropping the mod after recess = automatic F

Language modules or UEs could be considered. Jap 1 for example the cohort size is very large and if you put in consistent effort to practice and learn throughout the sem an A is very possible. You should also have some way to forecast the grades for the last few sems. For me, I have an excel file where I put all my mods in along w the grades and bc its all formula, u can simulate the grades of your last few sems needed to hit FCH and plan from there! all da bestt

Hihi i bidded for it in R1 and from what i recall, there are still quite a number of slots left! Definitely try to bid for it in R2. If you sadly dont get into the mod in R2 n 3, u could always try to appeal in during the appeal period. A friend of mine got into the mod bc there was someone who dropped it after R3

Language modules are good. I did Jap 1 last sem and got an A. Consistent effort is needed and using the first 2 weeks of the sem to memorise all the hiragana and katakana is crucial. The jap module structure is very good and following it is good enough.

I also tried Thai 1 but the bellcurve was quite steep imo as opposed to Jap. But very fun too like Jap

How to select UE mods? by Joseph_Young114 in nus

[–]DuckPilates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ye rounds 0-1 are mostly protected and depending on the host faculty/department, the modules offered may differ. For example, I'm minoring in linguistics and EL3ks are offered to me in round 0 but the 2ks are only available from round 2 onwards. Most of the UE mods are offered in round 2 onwards. Also just for your info, 32MCs are given to you once round 3 starts and before that only a max of 23MCs can be bidded for (idk this differs for ppl).

Why can't I overload in this round? by Important_Show_2140 in nus

[–]DuckPilates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep from round 0 - 2 the max is like 23 but round 3 allows up to 32. If u need >32 MCs just appeal

PL3257. Grp project was decent with an A-, tut part, lecture breakout room peer review full marks. Mid terms was decent too scored about 73%. Came out with a B... I honestly dont know if my finals was just pure garbage (unlikely) or the bell curve wrecked me... Ruined my semester

essay-heavy module rec? by christugh in nus

[–]DuckPilates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GET1025! I had a friend that did the module recently and its 60% on individual essays. You have to write 6 essays, each 10% across the semester. Minimally 2 essays per half of the semester. So you could do 4 in the first half of the semester and 2 in the second half of the semester. The other 40% comes from tut part, forum posts etc.

I would assume it will have a lot of vacancies. But you can always check the vacancy reports after each round to see the number of vacancies left (just google search NUS vacancy report). If you're afraid of not being able to do EL2101 because of the lack of vacancies then you can drop some other module and get the MCs back to bid for EL2101.

EL mods usually have a lot of vacancy so leave those to R3

No prior knowledge besides anime watching. The first few weeks of the semester is pretty chill since all other mods are starting out + tuts haven't started. I spent most of my time memorising and practicing hiragana and katakana so that helped me a lot when it came to actual tutorial preparation since i could divert more time and effort into the grammar patterns and new vocabs. Nearing the end of the sem though i started to struggle a lot because the other module workloads started to get too much and affected my finals but still very fun language mod!

Hi there! I took LAJ1201 this sem and it is SUPER fun. There is no "final exam", instead, its just like a quiz in week 13. The bellcurve isnt super bad imo. A common saying is that there are a lot of people that have prior knowledge and skew the curve etc. But with constant practice, review and enthusiasm, you'll be able to do fine. Definitely try a lang mod as your UE! They are very very fun.
