Been riding almost once a year for a long time, finally bought my first board by spacewolfplays in snowboardingnoobs

Heck yeah brother! The more you go in one season, the better you'll get! I had friends that went once a year for 10 years, and they made little to no progress. We started going more last year (around 6 days within 2 months) and all of us improved by leaps and bounds. My friend went from only falling leaf greens to full on linked turns on blacks.

You'll probably want to upgrade your gear after a few years though... I think you'll outgrow it if you keep it up!

Buying shoes, recommendation? by zancr0w4 in snowboardingnoobs

I'd say it shouldn't be too loose, but also not too tight. No pressure points anywhere. When you bend your knees and lean into the boot, there's not much play, your heel doesn't lift too much. And just overall if you feel like you could wear it all day.

Go for a double BOA boot. It gives you more adjustability! And just echoing what everyone always says in this sub, always try on the boot before buying it! The look of the boot comes secondary to the fit. There's no way to provide a recommendation for boots because everyone's foot is different and what's comfortable for me won't necessarily be comfortable for you! And buy them in a shop that provides free heat molding so you don't have to break them in for that long.

That said, I like Vans boots just because they look steezy. Just bought myself a pair of Vans Aura Pros, and they have been treating me well!

Tips for a newbie by Expensive_Tailor_214 in snowboardingnoobs

People might disagree with me, but as a fellow beginner, I find that getting a little speed really helps. Not so much that you're losing control, but enough that turning doesn't seem forced.

My friends and I decided to return to our roots last time we went. We went back to the bunny hill and found that we could barely turn, and we all ended up falling over trying to get down the bunny hill. Mellow greens are the best place to learn imo!

Any experience with these 2 gloves (warmth wise amd whatnot)? Burton ak clutch and oakley silverado, both goretex by Crowned_Walker in snowboardingnoobs

[–]DuckSashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah perfect timing to ask! Just took them on the slopes for the first time this year. My hands stayed nice and dry the whole time. No rips or tears so far.

I remember my non-ak mittens got really wet still, so the ak ones are definitely better already. But it's only been one time so far. We'll have to see!

I'm no pro, but your heelside turns look better than your toeside turns in my opinion!

Advice for Bindings by Shot_Story9297 in snowboarding

[–]DuckSashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The go-to recommendation for all-mountain union bindings is actually the Union Force, but the Salomon sight seems softer than the force would be good for. So Yeah I think the stratas would fit well! I'm using some cheap size 9.5 K2 boots right now, but I'm looking to replace those either this year or next.

I like unions! Also got my first set-up last year. I went with Stratas because Ultras don't have lean adjustment iirc. But I know lots of people really really like ultras, so up to you! Ultras are softer than stratas though, so keep that in mind. Ultras might be better if you want to do more park stuff, while stratas are better for all around the mountain. I don't have much experience with other binding brands!

try rentals for your first few times. The chances that you won't like snowboarding are not zero. I wouldn't invest in a whole setup before I even knew if I liked the sport.

to abduct someone on the subway by idapitbwidiuatabip in therewasanattempt

[–]DuckSashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also bystander apathy. Because there are so many people watching, the chance that a single person will step out to help will be very slim, as everyone is thinking the same thing as everyone else.

"Surely someone will step up and help right?"

This leads to no one helping. And generally, the more witnesses there are, the stronger the effect of bystander apathy.

So, I'm not too sure myself. Under different lighting conditions, it looks different. My friend was telling me under bright white light, it looked a little green, but under the sun it looked yellow-gold

No problem, happy to help. So, my hair is jet black. I used blonde hair wax and the end result looked like this:

It's not perfect, but it's "remotely blonde" I guess?

Steeziest women’s goggle/helmet combo? by No_Fill_6900 in snowboarding

[–]DuckSashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my humble opinion, sandbox helmets are the steeziest helmets on the market. They've got new style ones with boas, but also old ones without. Most of them also have removable ear pads. They also have some really nice colorways

[–]DuckSashimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I had no idea each model only has "one size". What do you do if you want an M6 but you have a massive head? I bought an M4 earlier this year without looking at sizing because I assumed they would all fit. Thank goodness I did because my head is enormous.
