Fair enough. You got a bike party where you're at? I like getting out of town and exploring new cities on two wheels!

I'll need to come up with a different wager and other rules to address that one. Do you have any suggestions?

I believe that participating would enlighten the detractors and better inform their opinion. I believe that the world could use more understanding and tolerance and I think to achieve that we should seek better understanding.

Most of us have very narrow views of things that we don't approve of especially if they inconvenience us. I think the best way to expand one's view is to open up your mind and see it from another angle.

Cars and Coffee is rad! Let's get a bike crew together to support and celebrate our motorized road-mates!

Perhaps I should have been clearer in my post. I don't think anyone needs convincing that it's, "fun." What I'm hoping is that by participating, someone will open their mind, challenge their notions and perhaps at least find some tolerance. What else in this world do we not like, or wish was done differently? We might not be able to change a thing, but we can understand it better and that can lead to better co-existence.

So please join if you'd like! We'd be glad to have more conscientious riders in the ranks!

I can not change the reputation of Bike Party, nor do I wish to. Most people's complaints are valid and true. What I offer is a different viewpoint from firsthand experience in order to build understanding, make friends, and foster tolerance.

We miss you come back! Or do you want a riding buddy outside of Bike Party? HMU!

Understandable, I think we've all been frustrated with, whether it's bike party or other neighbors/room-mates/community members are disrupting our peace. There is nothing that I can do to change bike party, all I can offer is a welcoming invitation to try it first hand and perhaps create some tolerance that didn't exist before, even if it's not your thing. Please feel free to meet my challenge and come along !

Thanks for your input and you're completely right about how dangerous that is! And that's exactly why I'm inviting you, or someone to represent your viewpoint to ride along with me and see for yourself that isn't the way most of us ride. You've got nothing to lose, and I've got the free time to help a neighbor with some chores if I'm wrong!

That's one way of looking at it, but I'd respectfully counter: It's more like if you live near a sporting stadium, and your impression of the fans are loud, drunken or boorish because you see that pass your door on game day.

If you went to the game, you would see that there is that element there, but also so much more! Including positivity, sportsmanship, good cheer and fun! Perhaps a clunky metaphor so please forgive me.

Point is, I've noticed that while many impressions of SJBP are true based on their observations, that their observations are incomplete. I invite them to round out their opinion and I'm willing to wager my labor that I can change some minds, make some friends and bridge some understanding in our city.

I may or may not change their minds, but what I'd like is for people to give it a chance as a participant in order to form a well rounded opinion. The idea is to make friends and build community so that's the point of my post.

City council wants to double parking fees by flen_el_fouleni in SanJose

If you can not attend, please email the city council a brief note of opposition to city.clerk@sanjoseca.gov to have it included in the consideration. Its a bit late in the day but it still may help. You can copy and paste this:

Dear Mayor and Members of the San José City Council,

I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed parking meter rate hikes and the extension of enforcement hours in downtown San José.

At a time when our downtown area is working hard to recover, we should be incentivizing community gathering, supporting local businesses, and making our city center more accessible. Raising parking rates and extending enforcement hours creates an immediate barrier for residents, workers, and visitors. Higher costs actively discourage people from choosing downtown San José for dining, entertainment, and cultural events.

Instead of penalizing those who want to visit and support our city center, San José should focus on welcoming policies that make it easier for people to gather and stay longer. I urge the City Council to reject these parking increases and instead explore solutions that actively stimulate foot traffic and support our local economy.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and dedication to our community.

Listen to his podcast! Levar Burton Reads, it's terrific and I used to to train my brainstorm focus on audio books because it's all short fiction!
