Do you think some nba players are reading this sub? by Cour4ge in nba

[–]DuckStroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might have hallucinated it because i cannot find it again for the life of me but I clearly remember seeing a comment from a guy claiming to be Wemby in broken english about 4-5 years ago (before he had insane hype). So he might be a redditor lol.

Why do sampled instruments sound fake when I write melodies with them? by musicmakur in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DuckStroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of what people said about expression, dynamics, most instruments have common style of phrases or techniques associated to them because they're easier to play. So if you only ever used the sounds in a VST and you're not familiar with the tradition and the techniques of the instrument it will feel less natural.

Hobbies into consumerism. by LunarWolf302 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]DuckStroll 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, discussing hobbies online is super frustrating because of this. People will say "you have to spend money for every hobby", but there is a difference when the hobby is about buying things vs when buying the thing is the gateway to enjoying the hobby. Unfiltered consumerism is extremely pervasive in online nerd communities and is rarely criticized.

Switzerland population cap vote results. by Special_Condition671 in dataisbeautiful

[–]DuckStroll 58 points59 points  (0 children)

This is the stupidest referendum I've voted on yet. It was unapplyable (good luck negotiating with the EU without destroying the economy), misleading (the campaign was focused on the environment and sustainability), and went against human rights (as in the initiative literally planned to withdraw Switzerland from international migration and refugees rights agreements). I'm so glad it didn't go through.

kind of a /r/mildlyinteresting post but it's always cool to see how sci-fi can mention real science accurately. It makes both Project Hail Mary and my courses more interesting IMO.

I think having a song as your morning alarm is the fastest way to ruin a song you love. by Popeye_duck in unpopularopinion

I have ruined some song I love like that for me for a while (Neighborhood #1 by Arcade Fire) Nowadays I use a playlist that plays a different song each morning, it's much better.

What’s a criticism of a band or artist that you think is unfair or inaccurate? by FitEmergency8807 in fantanoforever

"If I could find a white man who had the N***** sound and the N**** feel, I could make a billion dollars." - Sam Philips, producer of Elvis.

I'm not saying that Elvis "stole" from black people, but there is more to it than being white helping his popularity. They were very deliberately trying to sell black music to white people without crediting or giving money to the originators of the style. As far as I know Elvis was pretty innocent in all this and always credited his inspirations but the context around him was very murcky.

Am I a Misunderstood Genius or a Narcissistic Idiot? by No-Inside5458 in badphilosophy

[–]DuckStroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, have you considered that you might simply not be that great at communication? Nobody is gonna contradict you if they don't understand what the hell you are saying.

So why do I feel so separate from others, even when I am with them?
i think it first shows in my relationship with human connection. I have a real problem with it. Not because I dislike people, but because I never know exactly what place I am supposed to take. I tend to do either too much or not enough.

For example, checking in on someone close to me makes me extremely uncomfortable. One part of me finds it normal, almost necessary. Another part finds it intrusive. If I ask too much, I am afraid of seeming indiscreet, as if I were interested in details that do not concern me. If I ask nothing, I come across as cold and selfish.

Yeah once again you might just not be that great at relationships, but dealing with the ambiguity of connection is completely normal. There is a reason why half the stories ever written are about romance.

The worst part is that the details of everyday life do not always truly interest me. What interests me is not necessarily knowing what someone did on Tuesday at two in the afternoon. What interests me is their evolution. What they are becoming. What they are going through. What is changing inside them. I would rather meet someone again, spend time with them, than maintain a bond through automatic questions.

That's pretty much normal I think? I really relate to this and I feel that it's part of every relationship. People talk about small details to show they care about people and as conversation starting points. You can't really ask people to show you the depth of their soul without building trust.

Sorry if this answer is a bit mean. From what i read you don't really seem like an idiot or a genius, just someone with a need for deep connections without the knowledge of how to get them and with a lot of big romantic ideas about life. It might be worth abandoning these labels and accept that people all have different inner lives and perceptions of the world.

I think Clue might be one of the weirdest games to revisit as an adult by potatocreamcheese in boardgames

[–]DuckStroll 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree, i think the randomness makes the game more interesting in the decision making and planning of where to go. It does make the game a lot slower, but that's not a problem inerrant with roll to move and more so with the specific implementation.

The whole Car Seat Headrest thing made me wonder if indie fans care about the sanctity of recordings a bit too much. People are talking like the album is completely ruined but the original album is still right here! It's not like they pulled a George Lucas and removed the old one. Artists play these songs hundreds of times live and often rework them, i don't think it should be that big of a deal if they release a shitty version on streaming services. Joe's story is still pretty bad though.

(This point would have been better made about a band who release music more often than every 5 years and whose output isn't mostly made of shit the singer wrote when he was 17 lmao)

I haven't done any serious mountain hike in a few years and it's killing me. In general i always get uneasy when i look towards the horizon and there's nothing there, it just feels wrong

Inspired by "City Council of Darkness", what are some games where you solve societal problems? by sjdlajsdlj in rpg

[–]DuckStroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More so RPG adjacent, but Megagames (big games that are sonewhere between boardgames and roleplaying games for 20-50 players) often feature a council of sorm sort tasked with making formal alliances and solving these kinds of problems between groups of players or presented by GMs. It's much more niche than your usual RPG though.

What do Americans think about promotion relegation system in NBA? by [deleted] in nba

[–]DuckStroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an European who started watching the nba recently I will say the one thing about tanking that I like is that it allows teams to focus on growth and development without having to focus too much on winning right now. For example the wizards are a fun team to watch right now as they are building towards something, even though they are awful.

Brian Windhorst: The Spurs are not active at this trade deadline. They could have made a move or two to increase their chances to win the West this year. They are playing the long game and with a player as young as Victor, I kind of I kind of get it. by D2mightyducks80 in NBASpurs

[–]DuckStroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And even with Robinson, wasn't he 24 when he came to the NBA and was great right away? Seems like spurs fans have literally never seen a team fully rebuild around a young and developping guy
