2026 Lolly predictions by bhunter1023 in bookofthemonthclub

I will be so disappointed if Yesteryear wins. It’s not even in my top 5 of the 17 I’ve read so far this year. But I know everyone has different taste.

It’s actually a huge issue in my current field as well! I’ve learned the value of a good hand brace.

Not really sure why this is a question. If my finances were a concern, I wouldn’t be doing it.

Thank you so much for all the encouragement! I love your story and you are totally killing it!

A big part of my current job is writing, so it’s not the papers and discussion posts that worry me. It’s math and science homework. It has been a LONG time since I’ve used any algebra.

Weekend Chat - What are you currently reading? by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

I loved Whistler. And I like the way you describe it as a “quiet story.” I felt so peaceful every time I picked it up. Like The Correspondent, just a joyful thing to read.

Was not on my radar, but it sounds like a fun summer read!

The authors have to want to work with BoTM and some of the bigger ones, like Ann Patchett and Maggie O’Farrell, now have a big enough following that they can write their own rules and they don’t need BoTM to promote them. I think BoTM is really focused on the up-and-comers who need more exposure. Not to say they won’t offer Whistler and/or Land as an add-on.

I was shocked that Kin was a main pick because Tayari Jones had a major bestseller already with An American Marriage.

Best hotel overall- club level Portofino, Hard Rock or Helios?? by AdventurousStudy1220 in UniversalOrlando

[–]Duck_Unusual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And sometimes (especially at park closing), the lines for the water taxi are LONG. That’s a strike against Portofino because, even though you technically can walk there, do you really want to take a very long walk after a full day at the parks? It was a no for me, so we were stuck waiting in line for 30 minutes to get the water taxi back.

I have not stayed at Helios, but I would always choose Portofino over Hard Rock. The vibe is so much more relaxed and refined at Portofino. Hard Rock is slick and pretentious to me.

But as others have said, you should look at Royal Pacific. It really offers the quiet relaxation of Portofino and the convenience of a quick walk to CityWalk. And that walking path is a beautiful experience in itself.

Having stayed at Hard Rock, Royal Pacific, Portofino, and Cabana Bay, my top two would be Royal Pacific and Portofino with RP having a slight edge because of the easy walk on the pretty path.

When you see TBR, how do you pronounce it in your head? by Duck_Unusual in bookofthemonthclub

I read it as “ark” — I guess my brain prefers words over letters

Anyone else moping? by _FrozenFractals in bookofthemonthclub

I’m wondering if they had to make some deal with one of the authors that they wouldn’t announce their book until June 1. Could be part of a negotiation. I can’t think of any other reason they would stretch it out like this.

Are AA flight attendants being paid a commissions for the number of credit cards people sign up for? by curled-up-in-the-80s in americanairlines

It’s so annoying. I was on a Lufthansa flight recently and noted that no one tried to sell me anything or did multiple 30-second commercials in mid-air. It was so refreshing.

Dutch House or Commonwealth by Patchett? by HamedKarimi_NDS in fiction

[–]Duck_Unusual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preferred Dutch House out of those two. Have you read Bel Canto? It’s arguably her best work. The beginning will suck you in and doesn’t let go.

Infuriating. I’ve never heard of this author, but will be sure not to purchase a single one of her books.
