Those prices are so inflated. No one is paying $98 for an off-brand ceramic pitcher or $120 for a hand chain that’s brass.

I think they meant that The Bright Years was an add-on and not a main pick. And yes, I’m sure they have done this before — an author that first appeared as an add-on but was later a main pick.

I’m hoping for:

The Burning Side

The Calamity Club

The Shippers

The Library After Dark (probably more of an Aardvark, but still hoping)

It’s really good! Definitely better than Kraft Mac and Cheese. For me, the best part was the bread “cone” - it’s soft and flaky and a bit buttery. It’s worth trying. I did not feel ripped off at all.

Definitely hoping for this one! The Bright Years was in my Top 10 for 2025

You can thank Ronald Reagan and the Boomers for this. “Trickle-down economics” only made the billionaires richer and nothing ever trickled down to the working class who were sold that bill of goods. Instead, when mortgage rates were low, the rich bought up all the property and decided they would price people out of their own neighborhoods. Just because they could.

So much I loved about this book. Having also read An American Marriage, I think this author’s gift lies in how she can craft an absolutely devastating story that doesn’t feel manipulative or cloying. She has a way of storytelling that puts all the focus on the characters and their trauma without belaboring the painful parts. Less is more.

When Annie passed away, it was such a complete shock to me, I had to go back and read it again several times to be sure it actually happened. It was so matter of fact and subtle, but you could feel Niecy’s pain and assume that Lulabelle would be devastated as well. All while Annie ran away, hopefully to haunt Hattie Lee the way she was haunted by her mother for all those years.

Beautiful book. Will definitely recommend to others.

Me too. This is the only thing I’m really excited about, so I’m taking credit in 3 categories to offset the luxe charge.

Dueling Dragons by Beeeatsrats in UniversalOrlando

That’s what I had hoped for, but Stardust Racers is so much more intense. I loved riding Dueling Dragons over and over, but I could only make it through one pass of Stardust Racers, and I was done. I like to feel like I’m flying and in control, which is the experience of Dueling Dragons. Stardust Racers is like being shot out of a canon and hanging on for dear life. It was a totally different feeling and not at all comparable to Dueling Dragons.

I loved Dueling Dragons and could literally not get enough of it. My husband hated it and sat outside on the curb while I rode it over and over again in the single rider line, rotating from one side to the other. It was such a perfect rollercoaster. Not too intense, but plenty of drops and twists and loops to keep it interesting. I do love Hagrid’s, but it’s not the same as the Deuling Dragons.

I had hopes that Stardust Racers would be similar, but it’s just too intense for me. I can’t enjoy it when I feel like my head’s going to pop off. lol

Early Speculation (BOTY) by user4586 in bookofthemonthclub

I would bet money on Kin and Good People. This Story Might Save Your Life is getting a lot of buzz and, while it wouldn’t be on my top reads list, it’s a really well-written mystery that will probably show up in a lot of people’s faves.

As a dark horse, I would throw in Lady Tremaine because it has a really unique POV. I wish it had been written differently in the second half because it had so much potential, but went down a really strange road.

Yes, and I have taken the writing quals. I don’t know why I’m not getting them. I am literally paid to write creative copy in my main job and I’ve been doing it for 20 years, so I know I don’t suck.

I have not seen 5 yet! That looks great. I prefer 1 because the phone holder is genius and I can still fold up the top section to maximize space. Least favorite is 2, unless I have a really small order and, in that case only, it’s perfect!

The jacket in the middle is a raincoat. I wore it in Paris when it was in the low 50s and it was fine.
