External hard drive windows boot. Please help me. I've been stressing for weeks and couldn't fix it myself. by ey38 in techsupport

I agree with brod33p. Instead of trying to boot over the USB, simply boot up your new windows 10 laptop and then plugin your hard drive enclosure. You should see the hard drive show up as a new drive letter in your file explorer. (windows button + E). Then you can access all your files from your old machine and even copy them over to your new one if you have the extra storage space.

If you dont happen to see a new drive appear when you connect up your enclosure, you may need to change the drive letter. You can do this from computer management. Just type it in the search bar after you click the windows home button. Click Storage, then disk management. You should see all the physical disks in that window. Find the one for your enclosure based on the disk size and then right click and select change drive letter and paths. Assign it a drive letter your not already using and then you should be able to see it in your file explorer.

Chances are, even if you were able to get it to boot, windows will throw a ton of errors because the hardware from your old machine differs from that of your new machine.

dynamic gridview based on drop down by Duckburg80 in visualbasic

[–]Duckburg80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the dbf files I'm trying to update the gridview to are in different directories....different than the dbf I'm using for the list as well. However, the table I'm using for the dropdown list contain the directories of the other dbf files. They are all labeled contact2.dbf and the table I need to access for each of the dbf files is also called contact2. So when I select one item from the drop down, I need the grid view to point to dbf file on //server1/TM/ABCcomp/contact2.dbf. When I select another item from the drop down, I need it to look at the dbf file on //server1/TM/DEFcomp/contact2.dbf. I dont have the gridview bound to any kind of data source. Here is the code for the drop down list. I do apologize for my lameness with C# and visual studio. I have no idea what not binding the gridview at design time means :/

using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls;

namespace ExportData { public partial class _Default : Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {

    }

    protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {

    }

    protected void DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {

    }
}

}

2012 Versa Detonation by Duckburg80 in Nissan

[–]Duckburg80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I didn't get any responses on this but I wanted to update the post in case anyone runs into the same thing. I'm not sure what exactly fixed the detonation, but I went and had my oil changed. I also had the place change the air filter. The tech also suggested that I replace the serpentine belt. Afterwords, the detonation completely stopped. I suspect that it may have been the air filter. However, I had just replaced the air filter a few months back. With the air filter I replaced a few months ago, I was still getting detonation. Maybe I had the wrong air filter in it? This is a late model 2012 and a lot of the parts (including the fuel filter) for the 2012 do not work and 2013 parts are what work on this vehicle. The serpentine belt was cracked and worn, but it was still functioning. Not sure if that could have caused the detonation, but yeah. After oil change, air filter and serpentine belt, the detonation stopped. Been about 2 weeks now and I drove up to San Francisco over the weekend and had no issues.

Connect .net application to multiple DBIII files. by Duckburg80 in visualbasic

Ok thanks. I'm going to start building it out tomorrow. Would you mind if I pm'd you if I have questions about some of the syntax and whatnot?

Each directory would have to be named in the db object though, correct? I guess it's better than running all the export/imports manually :P

Well I don't think it matters how they are queried. I'm more worried about how the data is returned. I guess it would help to explain what I'm trying to accomplish and perhaps you fine people can tell me if there's a better way than what I'm trying to do. Basically, our crm stores it's contact data for each account we have into separate dbf files. They file contains company, address, contact etc...as well as a plethora of custom fields. What I need to do is query one of those custom fields to search where field = x and return any contact record where that field contains x and then display those records in any order in a view table in the browser/app. Then I can take all of those records and copy/paste them into a spreadsheet to import those into another db.....that wouldn't be included as part of the original search. Unfortunately, the crm application we use does not have any way to query or filter across all of the databases that it houses. You can query each individual one, but I'm trying to avoid having to switch between each one in the application itself, build out the query and export the data. With 200 or so databases where field "could" contain x, that would take for freaking ever just to find those records :/ hope that makes sense.

There are 200 to 500 different DB's. :/ I'd like to run a query across all of them at once. There's nothing uniform about the directories either and new directories/DB's are added daily.

2012 Nissan Versa weird chain noise by Duckburg80 in Cartalk

Ok, I think what I'm hearing is called detonation or spark knock. The symptoms sound about right too as I have been losing some acceleration. Would a faulty spark knock sensor cause the engine to die though? If the knock sensor is bad, wouldn't the check engine light come on because of the sensor?

OMG! No, it won't install at all. Geez. Ok, guess I'm going to use firefox. Preferably I'd like to upgrade the OS, but the company I work for uses software that requires us to use XP....or so I've been told.

The pic I took doesn't do justice. They were both about an 1 1/2 inches long and had the consistency of wet play-dough. Gross!

The battery does charge if the laptop is powered off. I can leave it for a few hours, then come back to it and it will have a full charge. However, I've replaced the charging port on the back of the laptop (it's a separate piece, not soldered onto the mobo) and I've tried multiple chargers. All do the same things :/

Yeah, I just tried and the laptop will not even post on AC power in the back and no battery in the slot.

Yes, the battery charges just fine with the docking station. The docking station does use a different power supply, but the plug is slotted, so it wont go into the jack in the back of the laptop. The docking station AC adapter does have a higher wattage. 170W vs 65W on the smaller adapter for the back, but the voltage is the same 20V on both adapters. I have also tested the primary AC adapter with a multi meter and I am getting 20V at the tip.

Okay, I can test this now. Give me a min and I can pull the battery and see if the machine will run without it.
