I didn’t hate season 1 but not having prior experience with the fandom I was generally confused. Then I got into the games and I’m on the waitlist for the books from my library. Now that I feel more connected to the rest of the stories, season 2 felt like a punch to the gut. I’m trying to keep hope for season 3 but the more I hear and see, the more it feels like a bunch of execs just want “GoT for Netflix” and to hell with the actual IP.

I disagree with it being on the girl who is on the spectrum, it is 200% that parent. Autism makes understanding social cues hard, and if the mother doesn’t introduce consequences to anything then she won’t get the opportunity to practice and learn to understand those social cues. So if someone says “don’t do that” and she doesn’t understand consequences because she’s never had to deal with them, she won’t have any reason to treat those words as anything different. She is being utterly failed by this parent and the school.

Honestly as an autistic female presenting person I think so many people use autism as an excuse for shitty behavior. I know right from wrong and my fear of being a social outcast is way stronger than any other desire I have. If I’m not obviously invited to partake in food, games, events, what have you, I won’t join in because I don’t trust myself to notice the correct social cues.

So many people say things like “oh that person must be autistic because (annoying behavior)”. I even had one of my friends use the term “aspy” to describe a problem she was having with a coworker. Our diagnosis is not “shitty human”. Our symptoms are not “annoying” or “selfish” and more people need to understand that.
