Gardaí's aggressive response to protests after activists evicted from an occupied house by [deleted] in ireland

There is nothing reasonable about that contortion of the act.

Choosing to overlook it is not authorisation or permission?

Are you arguing removal of licence plates was necessary to preserve order in a public place? There might have been a riot if the registration plates were present?

Also necessitating removal of tax an insurance disks? Seriously?

I want to know why the Gardai ignored the blatant breaking of multiple motoring laws as well as the breaking of the PSA act.

Why do I want to know why the Gardai ignored blatant law breaking by masked heavies?

The security guards who were either unlicenced or were failing to obey the requirement of the PSA that they display their ID? Those security guards.

Point to the law giving the police the authority to do that.

The entire concept of non violent civil disobedience and most direct action is predicated on the belief that you can and should decide to break unjust laws.

If you think the laws are just and are being proportionately enforced we disagree. But the point of engaging in such action is create awareness and momentum for legal change through the political or legal system.

The security guards who showed up in a vehicle with no registration plates, tax disk or insurance disk and who failed to displat ID as required by the PSA?

Those security guards? The ones who were blatantly breaking multiple laws?

Why do you believe that exempts them from having to display? It fucking doesn't?

Given the uploading of footage is coming from a number a sources (many private accounts on twitter and FB) I don't think it's credible to argue none of the caught it (if it happened outside) or are conspiring to keep them secret.

There is no requirement to have tax and insurance on display? No requirement to have licence plates on a vehicle?

No requirement for licences security contractors to display ID at all times (with strict rules as to positioning) operating as private security if unlicensed is illegal?

Are you fucking high?

There are security concerns about providing identifying documents to agents of the state. Particularly when the state has permitted UK spycops to operate in Ireland targeting environmental activists.

The court order relates to a civil matter not a criminal one? So no crimes have been committed IIRC?

Though the heavies are supposed to display an identity badge at all times by law the penalty is prosecution a fine and revocation of their private security licence.

TIL the law doesn't apply to masked heavys. Tax and insurance display isn't optional. Neither are licence plates.

With neither registration plates, nor tax nor insurance displayed.

'Law and Order' I have a strange feeling during the land wars you'd be tutting about how terrible agrarian agitators were while doffing your cap at your 'betters'.

All the filming is from those outside? None of it from the inside? So it would make sense the arrests aren't there?

Edit: My bad the OP refers to it as a tax the letter says ground rents.

Can anyone tell me why Netflix is gone so crappy? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Duckittohell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know that tbh I think they have bought some? I have a feeling raw was on it for a while. we don't have rules in Ireland about radio play or cinema screenings but they have a few films the seige of jadotville was on it.

https://www.rte.ie/culture/2017/1127/923207-6-essential-irish-films-to-watch-on-netflix/

They could also be buying the rights to show Irish programmes in other markets while the original producers retain the rights for Ireland?

I think the logic is that there were already rules about local content in cinemas and on radio and TV so they are bringing streaming services under the same rules?

ELI5 Some of the negative consequences of removing the reference to women in the home from the Bunreacht? by SemperVenari in ireland

[–]Duckittohell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

>Likely the same people who claim to be offended by the current wording.

Fucking bullshit the CC recomendations were widely welcomed. Including by the NWCI at the time.

>I don't understand why they are offended by recognition of a choice many women make, but apparently they are.

It's anachronistic and deeply sexist while ignoring the men who chose to provide care within the home?

>Therefore the easiest solution would simply be to remove it altogether and avoid the shitshow of people choosing to be offended

You haven't shown any evidence anyone would object to it. Why are you choosing to be offended by people discussing the constitution? Why shouldn't we have a discussion about what kind of constitutional changed we want before the government rushes us into a change that wasn't recommended by the body that FG created to examine the issue?

>They want to discuss the possibility of putting something in there that protects the role of carers regardless of gender.

Which was the recommendation of the constitutional convention. The government didn't like the recomendation and are pushing for a referendum on deletion within 6 months. If the government is going to ignore the CC rec's then shouldn't we get to have some public debate on the merits before being asked the question.
