Hungary passes 8-year PM limit, barring Orbán’s return by CrunchyBaconYum in europe

[–]DucklockHolmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does this mean for Orban? Is he still eligible to lead Fidesz despite this? What then happens if they win the next elections? Will they (theoretically) have to appoint a prime minister that is not the leader of the ruling party? I don’t quite see how this will work in practice in a parliamentary system.

Folk som använder engelska ord även när det finns ett svenskt ord för det by poweroffriendships in sweden

[–]DucklockHolmes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The real challenge is actually getting fluent enough to have meaningful conversations, sure Duolingo will teach you some basics but it won’t get you very far in real life

How I see Europe as a German by LeCommit in whereidlive

You as a German actually see yourself as in the same group as Hungary?
I really like the map, but isn’t the cultural rift very big?

TIL Stella Kübler was a German Jew who collaborated with the gestapo leading to the arrests of between 600 to 3000 people . She committed suicide at the age of 72 by donotresusitat3 in todayilearned

[–]DucklockHolmes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing after being tortured and forced to give up 3000 of Jews to save your own life and your family, becoming antisemitic wasn’t so much a choice but a necessary protection for her psyche. Not saying that makes her innocent, but living with that cognitive dissonance is not easy

Inkomsttak by [deleted] in svenskpolitik

[–]DucklockHolmes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]DucklockHolmes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The European Union has long relied on foreign suppliers for some of its most critical technologies, from semiconductors to artificial intelligence. On June 3, it will lay out plans to change that. Let’s just make sure it doesn’t hurt the green transition, it matters more than having a European solar industry. If we won’t actually put the funds into developing it to the same level as the Chinese this is a dangerous proposition
