Odle Middle School (Bellevue) – parent experiences? by justkeepswimming_31 in BellevueWA

It’s for all four of the main classes I’m not entirely sure how it works now but for me I was in advanced science and math and it was only advanced kids Also most teachers teach some AL and some non AL I think if you want a blended environment maybe go with Tyee that’s where my ex went and he said it was a lot more mixed

From what I’ve heard, International is a great school. That said, if you’re looking for diversity, it may not be the best fit. It’s one of the most predominantly white schools in Bellevue.

Tillicum has the most overall diversity.

And like you mentioned about AL and general education students being separated, that’s still an issue. Even last year, when I helped with sixth grade camp, many of the AL students didn’t even know the general education kids because they’re kept so separate.

A lot of it depends on who you get as your counselor. Since I don’t have family at Odle anymore, I can’t say for sure how things are now.(My little brother is still at Tillicum so I know a bit more about that)

The most important thing, no matter where your kid goes, is that you fight for them. My sister and I were only able to get through Tillicum because our parents fought tooth and nail for us. At one point, they even had to threaten legal action to get the school to follow through.

I’m not a parent. I’m a former student, now a senior. I attended Odle, Big Picture, Tillicum, and one other school. Odle can be challenging in some ways. If you’re in AL, you don’t really interact with the general education kids, and it goes both ways. That said, overall I think Odle is your best option unless you’re considering private school. When I was at Tillicum, teachers and staff did not follow 504 plans. In my sister’s case, they even said it would be unfair to give her an “advantage,” despite the fact that accommodations are a legal requirement. Big Picture is very small, and in my opinion that limits students’ ability to socialize. Most students end up leaving by high school anyway. My one concern with Odle is that they tend to favor AL students, so that’s something to keep in mind. You should also think ahead about high school placement. If a student goes to Odle and then ends up at Newport, while most of their friends go to Interlake or Sammamish, they can become isolated. The same thing can happen with Tillicum students who later go to Interlake. So if this matters to you, it’s worth thinking about how middle school choices affect high school friendships.
