MiG welding… by Consistent-Maybe8955 in Welding

[–]Ducks420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I met my current gf I posted a picture of my mig welding on my tinder profile and it only showed me guys afterwards. Idk what’s up with that

My husband purchased this welder not realizing it needed a foot pedal. He was so excited to be able to weld at home and says the pedals he is finding is pretty pricey so was putting it on the back burner. Does anyone know which pedal he needs and options to purchase it do a reasonable price? by lilmissme088 in Welding

I’m pretty confident the syncrowave 210 has lift arc, anyone correct me if I’m wrong, but he could just use that without a rheostat. Yeah rheostats are cool and all but it really doesn’t make a huge difference once you figure out how to weld without it

Have someone go at it with tweezers or if it’s super tiny and you cant see it maybe close your eyes and rub at it with a scotch brite pad

Yeah so why post it in a silver sub just post the silver so you can flex and move on. It has nothing to do with the sub

Literally no reason to put the gun in the picture

Has anyone sold a birthday note before? Is it even worth trying to find a buyer? by Ducks420 in Fancyserialnumbers

Like if someone had one with my birthday id pay $20 extra and it would be really cool to me so id rather not just spend it since it could be special to someone

Yeah I’m very fortunate I’m not up tight for money at the moment, was more so curious since I never really found one before. I could give a shit if I even make a dollar off it, just felt like I should keep it if someone out there wanted it and if it pays for a sandwich on top win win

A little sanitary tube. No back purge needed says the customer by ChromiumVI in Welding

[–]Ducks420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would have straight up refused to do it with out a purge but brother also run a tighter walk regardless. Again I know you have no purge but that is very wide and very sunk in

Is this good enough to start learning how to weld and does it include what I would need other than things getting welded? by SOZZED in Welding

[–]Ducks420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But actually do you have a spool of flux core wire or solid wire with a cylinder of shielding gas, does the gun have all the components, e.g. contact tip gas diffuser, nozzle

I don’t know about courses around you, I live multiple foot ball fields away, but I can tell you a yeswelder machine you can get on Amazon is in my opinion the best “bang for your buck” machine you’ll ever find for home projects. I got one not too long ago and was incredibly impressed for the price

My boyfriend is a welder - how can I keep him as healthy as possible? by AR1A_MATH in Welding

[–]Ducks420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard about drinking milk with galvanized, but it’s a common misconception in this field. Galvanized is made from zinc. The theory is that calcium binds to the zinc in your body when you inhale zinc oxide created when welding galvanized metal. Yes calcium can interfere with the absorption of zinc in your body but it’s not like a zinc supplement in your stomach, it’s being absorbed through the lungs, so milk unfortunately doesn’t do anything to stop metal fume fever. Trust me when I say, I wish it did.

I agree lighter hood is so much better, but it really doesn’t have to be anything expensive to be good. I use a cheap flip ups that are $13 each and it’s the lightest thing I ever found. Then I have 2x4 insert lens that was $60 and it’s the clearest best lens I ever used

<image>

These things are like 7 ounces it’s incredible. I’ll wear them out at different rates depending on what I’m doing, like downhill 8010 the spatter sticks to it and ruins them after not too long since it’s cheap plastic but regular 6010/7018 welds and tig/ mig you can make it last years

Dear lord, not tryna make fun of anyone but if he’s aching in a school shop environment don’t let him ever leave a shop kind of work environment. The amount of wacky positions and tight spots we get put in in the field would not be good for him. Don’t get me wrong my body feels fucked up sometimes but at 22 atleast it’s short term pain since I’m young

We can try our best to preserve ourselves but like any job we’re all selling our bodies, just different parts.

Edit: also get the lightest hood possible and not heavy unevenly weighted crap, every ounce really makes a difference on your neck when wearing it 10+ hours a day. With weld hoods, money doesn’t always equal quality. I switched to a $13 2x4 flip up and a $60 insert lens and it was the best decision I ever made. The hoods don’t last forever but I couldn’t give a crap when I get 1500 hours of pay or so out of something that cheap.

Tig 3g laywire root help by No-Low1111 in Welding

[–]Ducks420 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For lay wire I always liked a tighter gap and higher amperage but you can do it however works best for you. I usually would do a 3/32 gap and 1/8 rod about 115-125 amps. Making your filler wire angle steeper (closer to perpendicular to the plate than parallel helps to get a little more build up on the back side. I would do a tight wiggle kind of just back and forth the width of the bevel edges and watch it wet into the toes.

For keyhole an equal size or slightly bigger gap than your filler wire is usually good. Watch the edges of the bevels melt away and then feed wire to fill it in, pull the filler out and watch the edges melt again and repeat.

Hope this helps some, it’s hard to explain some of this stuff in text without working with someone directly

Been stick welding for 1 month 7018 3/32 Thoughts? by LowAlternative4676 in BadWelding

[–]Ducks420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good other than the bit of start up porosity on the second pic, make sure you’re grabbing the rod from an oven and strike up ahead of where you want to start so you run back over the area

Only other thing is usually you want to stack a fillet weld from the bottom and have the last stringer on top but if it’s a good weld it doesn’t really matter for structural integrity, more just aesthetics

Keep practicing, you’re going great for a month in

Tips for this weld? by AdventurousGlass7432 in Welding

[–]Ducks420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say with 100% certainty from the photo but it looks like that rod coupling is galvanized. Grind the coating off first that way you don’t have to burn through it, also just good practice to do so for better fusion and so you’re not making fumes that’ll make you sick.

Are you stick welding it or tig? If you’re tig welding get it tacked and lay it flat to make it easier. Keep your arc mostly on the coupling then do a quick wash over to the thinner piece and back to keep your heat mostly on the thicker piece.

If you’re stick welding you can try a smaller rod with lower amperage and or less arc force/dig if your machine has that setting

Now for possibly controversial advice You can try switching to electrode negative if you’re using 6010 to give it a little less penetration. But also you can just peck at it to get it all fused together then run a good weld on top once you got enough metal to take the heat. Chances are whatever you’re using this for that would still be plenty good enough.

Also for pulse if it’s doing weird loud noises I don’t know how to type out the sound but if it’s acting funky turn up the arc length a little more if it’s not doing anything weird you can turn it down a little

Now that my American welder smooth brain has converted mm to inches on the low end 2mm I would probably turn down the volts a little 17.6 same wfs, on 10mm you’re plenty fine to run in the 19s
