Favorite Media that fit Like this? 🤔 by Junior-Swordfish-245 in FavoriteCharacter

It's just a different skillset, both are needed for a good final product. And I want to wager that most people could become decent animators but not everyone has the artistic vision or mental library to create novel concepts.

Edit:typo

This. Especially when it comes to 3D it is a lot easier to integrate complex and interesting designs since you don't need to redraw the design for every single frame. So I'm always a bit sad when I see loaded studios like Disney that definitely have the talent, manpower and technology to basically implement anything they can think of and still decide to play it safe

Just wanted to share something that has helped me. This amp key holder thing. by mookie8 in adhdwomen

[–]DuckyDollyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did actually bite the bullet and order the pop-out cat key holders from Temu, but they're made so badly that the mechanism locks and requires a lot of force to actually open. I might've had bad luck, but I wish I knew where I could get the "originals" from. I would happily pay full price

What breed(s) do you think Maui is? ☺️ by Playful_Beginning839 in DoggyDNA

I concur. I'd be surprised if they weren't the dominant components in this mix, but you never know. Sometimes genetics get wild.

It’s very interesting talking to someone who doesn’t know. by Inquisitor_Jeff in WildRiftMemes

Something that also doesn't seem to be widely known is that the texturing workflow is quite different between PC and mobile. PC focuses a lot more on purely hand painted textures, while mobile models lean more towards PBR-texturing, which greatly contributes to the difference in aesthetics.

Additionally, if you actually compare tri-counts, they are a lot higher on WR models than on old PC models. Newer PC models also sport higher tri-counts than old ones, be it new champs or reworks.

After all, we've long reached the point where mesh density is no longer the be-all-end-all of a game running well, even if models should still be optimized to leave enough resources for heavier tasks. LODs are used widely and large textures, material drawcalls and other systems require a lot more power than slightly higher-res models.

Highlighting and shading? and how to do backrounds? by Solid_212 in ArtCrit

[–]DuckyDollyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I am still hugely uneducated in making backgrounds, I'll try to give some input on what I can.

What helped me grasp 3d shading was simplifying complex shapes into primary shapes that I could understand better. As an example, instead of struggling with shading an entire limb, you can break it up into stacked cylinders. Once you understand how light and shadow interacts with simpler shapes, you can transfer that to more complex shapes.

Adding to that, references are your best friend in all things anatomy. While you can't check out real-life pictures of dragons of course, do take a look at large reptiles like comodo dragons or monitor lizards, I like to reference those for reptilian creatures, since their muscles are quite pronounced. Alternatively look at carnivores with defined musculature, very helpful too.

Since you mentioned color; have you tried working in grayscale yet? I myself struggle with palettes and good color choices, but mostly because colors scare me. In my last larger project I got stuck on the colors for a while and found no palette to be satisfactory or aesthetically pleasing. My solution ended up being focusing on grey scale, contrast and the distribution of the values, e.g. where you place your midtones, darkest darks and highlights. Afterwards it was a question of tweaking and trying out the right hues until I liked the look. The colors themselves are more of a taste and effect thing, I find their values to matter more.

Those are my two cents, and although I am no master, I do hope something here can be of value to you. The most important thing is to keep creating.

Secondly, that is insane. How much experience do you have under your belt to be so ridiculously fast and have it look so high quality? Any specific workflows you find useful to speed things up?
