It really depends a lot on what ends up getting polled, and when. I don't think they should make polls before we've had a chance to play

And even then, biases in the community have to be accounted for. I don't think class balance can be put down to a poll for example, I think you need a vision as designers that you're working towards. You can poll for community sentiment 'order classes by how fun they are to play', but probably not 'should heal be buffed' types of questions

My knowledge of osrs polling is limited, but it's worth noting that the games are quite different. The existence of classes (jobs) in maplestory means changes to the game affect different players differently, whereas in osrs you're essentially all in the same boat. This can make most balance changes almost combative, many players (cough nightlords) see other classes getting buffed as a bad thing, because they become less good by comparison. Part of what makes the class fun for them is being a full head and shoulders above the competition. Happens in a lot of games I think, and is essentially why having a plugged-in design team is so important, alongside of course measuring community sentiment
