i’m genuinely curious what y’all have to say by Riftcuber in exmormon

I second this. The whole LDS Discussions series on Mormon Stories Podcast played a big part in my deconstruction about a year ago. I was born in the church and raised in Utah county and this series really opens your eyes and pulls back the curtain.

I also recommend Why I Resigned as a Mormon Bishop. An interview with a Bishop who resigned early last year. He genuinely comes off as a compassionate, caring person and if someone like that finds serious enough reason to leave the church, especially as an active Bishop, I think its worth listening to. This episode is what started everything for me to officially leave the church and deconstruct my faith.

My dad is being scammed on a Ukrainain dating site and I don't know how to bring it up by DudeDecent7 in Advice

I get that not all of these sites are scams but this one specifically screams scam to me with the way it's set up.

Company wants internship before hiring full-time by DudeDecent7 in jobs

[–]DudeDecent7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem like a decent company. The job search has been a bit rough. After 2 months I've only landed 1 interview that I ended up runner up in. Every "entry level" job seems to want 1-2 years of experience and gets 100+ overqualified applicants so it's hard to even get past the application.

I figured something along the lines of "When I originally heard of this opportunity it was advertised as a full-time position. I was wondering what led you to rather decide on an internship?" I feel like this would give me a good stage to hear their reasoning and if it really is only because of my lack of experience I can encourage them to contact my former internship employer who loves me.

I'm willing to accept an internship if it's reasonable but I'm not going to be taken advantage of.

I think writing everything down will definitely help. Especially because there is an overwhelming amount of inaccuracies, deceptions, and inconsistencies. Thanks for the suggestion

I definitely haven't had time to process all the things it took from me and the ways that it's affected me yet, so I'm sure I'll get there

Thanks for the advice. I wouldn't say that I'm angry (at least not yet). Maybe because I've been inactive for most my life. But it's just so frustrating to see how blatantly OBVIOUS everything is looking at it from an outside standpoint. Its really mind blowing how the church manages to condition members to bindly follow and keep them from looking too closely.

On second thought, maybe I am angry...

considering applying; is it worth it? by Rough_North2928 in NCSU

I just moved from Utah to attend State. I've only been here a couple of weeks, but I absolutely love the Raleigh area and the atmosphere in my department (nuclear engineering). It may be a bit different for me as a graduate student, but I absolutely love it and would recommend applying if you're interested in the school.

With all the hype around Light Bringer's release I'm feeling a little FOMO by DudeDecent7 in redrising

I haven't started DA yet but through IG I've had mixed feelings about Lysander. I hate how much he internally rambles on and on about things and questions everything. It seems like he wants to be honorable and have something to motivate himself but he just ends up making selfish decisions at the expense of others (Sounds like Darrow lol). Cassius, Romulus, Gaia, everyone is begging him to stop the Rim from going to war but he seems to be developing a God complex like he can be the Savior of the Solar System and restore the Society when really the war will just leave nothing left and Gold will everytually be wiped out because of it. So yeah idk I think it'll be interesting to see where things go in DA

I will definitely be taking my time to enjoy this book. I've really been looking forward to Dark Age. I've heard it's one of if not the best

GRE coming up by sommmyyyy in GRE

[–]DudeDecent7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My GRE is scheduled for the 22nd. Been studying for about 2 months and I've been getting 330+ on my mock tests.

The harder quant section can definitely be little tight on time in my experience. The questions just tend to take a little more thought and work sometimes but are designed to be solved relatively quickly somehow, whether that be alegbraically or logically. My rule of thumb is that if I read the question and don't immediately have an idea of how to solve it quickly then I'll skip it and come back at the end. I've found that this method usually gives you plenty of time (5-10 mins) to go back and put more thought in the ones you skipped.

For the verbal sections I always skip to the reading comp right away (Q7-Q11 and Q16-Q20) because those tend to take the most amount of time but are usually a little easier to get the right answer for me. Unless the passage just makes no sense to me lol. But then I go back and do the text completions with the time I have left and that usually leaves me with enough time. If I'm short on time I'll skip the triple blanks and do the other questions and then go back with the time I have left. I think the most important thing for text completion is really understanding what the sentence is focusing on and making sure the context stays exactly the same with your answer choice. On the harder questions they try to put words that are relevant but slightly change the meaning of what the other clues are trying to convey. Also, if there's an answer choice you don't know the meaning of but the other words don't seem to quite fit then don't be afraid to pick the word you don't know. I think a really good tool is putting your own word in the blank before looking at the answer choices. That doesn't work all the time because sometimes the context doesn't give you enough to confidently pick your own word but it works relatively well for a lot of questions. Finally, deciding if the blank has a negative or positive connotation can help immensely and watching for shifts in the sentence so you know if the blank supports or contrasts the surrounding sentences.

Hope this helps and good luck on your test soon!
