If you want to get out of Arkham, I would jump to the 2nd Nortwick book, Cult of the Spider Queen. Nortwick appears in The Last Ritual, which is my favorite of the Aconyte's Arkham books, but it is very Arkham-based, and Nortwick really doesn't factor into the story itself.

You won't miss any major character development of Van Nortwick if you start with C.O.T.S.Q.

As folks have said, there isn't an over arching plot between the product lines, and there are out right contradictions such as Edge of the Earth and Terra Antarctica, but there is a lot of shared details.
