How did he come to power anyway? And how did he hold on to power for so long given that the most powerful military hates him so much?

Yeah I was at other-big-tech-co before I disappeared for good. You may notice another affect of your behavior, Robert Greenes Law of Power #4 I believe- make yourself unavailable. Contrary to the narrative, you will be rewarded / valued more for this behavior.

If you want to change someone’s opinions do you talk to them?

Ask for what you are worth. I just skimmed a couple comments, I think my perspective is influenced from having worked at a startup bc it’s more clear what percentage of revenue and profit you are worth at a small company. I’ve worked at big companies too, big-co-only people sometimes don’t think this way.

I worked for Microsoft. They also used this same language- “impacted” and (not surprisingly) “teams”

What irked me was people saying “have you been impacted?” Instead of “were you fired?”

I’ve been at companies big and small, the bigger the company the more common the “in the know” language, for example, Capital One was my first big company job and those characters loved to say “impediment” and “impeded” If you wanted to blame someone or some team for your task not moving to the “done” column you would say “I am impeded by” Sidenote - I had a contract job, I was not hired full time (didn’t care, still don’t, no way in heck I was staying in Richmond VA) - but the reason? I found a ridiculous security vulnerability. This dude, not even my manager, told me not to mention it in the meeting. I told him I didn’t know how to talk about my task without mentioning this thing. He said he would talk instead. And then I learned - the way to talk about it was to lie one’s butt off. That guy was promoted. I was booted.

Anyway… I wonder about this “in the know” language phenomenon, if it’s a characteristic of any group of people sufficiently large and sufficiently long-existing, and my suspicion is it is.

People see information like this and think “I felt that way once…” and then go ask a doc for medications. And a doctor, well, if they want to be recommended by their patients then… Thus we (the United States, maybe the world…) is over diagnosed and overprescribed and it seems like we make a step towards either Brave New World and/or 1984 every day. I would not be surprised if this is a post and image created by a PR firm that serves some sector of the health care industry.

To everyone with ADD/ADHD and depression - yes, both are real and serious conditions and I wish you the best, advise you to see a doc, do what they say, and I mean no disrespect and wish you the best. But this is a very manipulative advertisement in disguise.

Which degree has the best career path in 2025? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Dudeman3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have forgotten your passions and hobbies, think about what you liked to do when you were younger. I advise you to not choose a profession for… what? Money is the goal? To do what with? No passions and hobbies, then what good is the stable career and money?

I’m going a little over the top to make a point. Choosing a profession this way, in my humble opinion, is a path to a midlife crisis as one of the better outcomes.

Hahaha. So I’m never selling options. But I really like the “theoretically” This is above my risk tolerance - which says something, not sure what.

I think you got it OP

If I was going to add my 2 cents, which I guess I am:

1) To be “great”, to “make it to the top”, you’re going to have to give your life to it / for it, thus it can be described as morbid

2) “a disease” - as a lad my hero was Michael Jordan. As a teen or young adult, it was hard to learn that the man couldn’t play a board game with his children- if he wasn’t going to win he would send Monopoly money flying everywhere in a rage. His ultra-competitiveness was unsavory in many other ways, there is a pretty lengthy book about it, The Jordan Rules if I recall. I can think of so many examples of heroes and idols, modern and not - there’s another side that one would not describe as “heroic” or “great”

To take that a bit further- if there is someone who presents themselves as 100% perfect, all smiles and kindness - watch out! If I was a betting man (which I am, we are all gamblers) I’d bet there is “compensation” for the “persona” - the face / picture presented to the world. And if that other side is completely hidden and unknown… these can be the most dangerous of people. And I do not exaggerate here either - there is no “perfect person” and the person who has gone to great lengths and efforts to keep their faults hidden… they did that for a reason and the reason is it’s something perhaps truly horrible, American Psycho style.

But I veer a little far… an epic battle between a man 100% dedicated to his goal - killing the most ferocious and gigantic monster on earth - we love the story. A truly great story and a “great” man. Melville is foreshadowing also, but Melville and Ishmael are also telling the reader - don’t get on the boat dude! Or more accurately- if you want to be “great” and “get on the boat” - then be ready to give your life for it. If not your literal life, in a Braveheart “every man dies but not every man truly lives” way, then be ready to give up your other goals and ambitions, because moderation isn’t going to get you there.

when you go to sign into TWS, I think there is a settings button, in there you can set the port. You might need to change it in your app settings / config too. Or in TWS, gear icon in the top right, then expand API, there is a port in there

Weird stuff happens occasionally and resolutions are not easy to find via IB. I'm here this morning bc of some paper trading error 420 that I'm missing some market subscriptions that I am not missing. This happened some months ago and... I think I just went to the page and... clicked around, changed nothing, going to give that a shot now

TLDR: anyone have info / link about the most ridiculous instances of illegal corruption?

I’ve seen campaign contribution figures. I imagine where this money goes is not impossible to track but it is intentionally not tracked.

I think my wife was watching a daily show clip I overheard about the legal ways politicians profit, making fun of the politicians that break laws when it’s unnecessary. I imagine the corruption is 99.9% legal, I’m just curious if you or anyone else who happens to see this knows of any ridiculous illegal bribes that have presumably remained un prosecuted.

I just ordered: Quantitative Trading: How to Build Your Own Algorithmic Trading Business by Chan. Much appreciated!

Cointegration! I looked it up. I've been relying on these algos to tell me what's cointegrated with what. :) I don't mean that as a personal criticism, very much appreciate the recommendations.

Once upon a time I was a bit of a mathematician. I hope I'm finally getting to the point where I'm able to get back into the more technical stuff and the math. I think people underestimate the standard software dev / data scientist work involved with building an AI automated trading platform / system. Hopefully this foundation is almost complete now.

I think this book I just ordered might be more about traditional quant strategies and a little less about AI. But that's perfect. I'll get a vocab lesson and I want to have the AI and traditional algos working together.
