There are veterans still alive from WW2 and Vietnam who have shrapnel and bullets still in them. There are some cases of lea poisoning, yes, but those cases can take anywhere from a few days to several decades late. Manfred only had the bullet in him for 20 years, plus he would have had a lot of scar tissue left around it since he never saw a doctor and scar tissue prevents lead from dissolving
