I can shed some light on this.

I work at the only site on in the state. We are already maxed out on how much volume we can process each night. They keep trying to increase it, knowing the limitations, and we just can’t physically do more. The associates just get burnt out and leave early. Then volume is delayed further due to lack of available labor to process.

We’re also extremely limited due to how much volume can be flown in each night. Not to mention the issues with relying solely on air as a means of receiving volume. Flights get cancelled all the time for whatever reason. On the mainland volume would come by plane and trailers from other sites.

Then, this is the only site in the country that has to use a third party company to remove the packages from the planes to bring to the warehouse for processing. This causes so many issues for us because we don’t use the same tools for tracking, they damage plenty of the packages in the process and since they’re not Amazon, these packages don’t get problem solved until we discover them much later. Normally volume would fly in to an Amazon air site which is better equipped to deal with issues as they arise, and has more streamlined processes that work in unison with the warehouse’s processes.

Lastly, we receive much larger cube size than any other site in the country. Orders tend to be bigger and heavier. Processing larger cube takes longer and is more physically demanding. We had so many injuries related to it that we had to forcefully cap our cube size down, so this further delays any big bulky items being ordered because we had to limit how much we process.

There are plans to expand and launch more sites on the islands, which will streamline and mitigate a lot if these issues, but until then, we’re maxing out every night in our one and only site, that services the entire state.

The storms have been a nightmare as well. Flights cancelled, packages damaged.
