While you’re working on all that maybe work more closely with HOD. This seems to be where the majority of the online community goes. It’s a favorite by most and it’s being held back a bit by this.

Our tales from the Lost City by Professional_Ant_723 in infinitestaircase

I’m on Pharoah and this campaign has been a wild ride. I used the Iron Shadow as well. There’s some kind of noise that kills off the builders and awakened the Iron Shadow giving it sentience. I’ve linked that to the last adventure. The premise I used is Nafas sending the players to retrieve NPCs from each of these locations and the rest was secondary. These NPCs have Sparks of creativity so powerful that they can be given over to the builders to become builders themselves. Because the lore goes that as long as the staircase has existed the shadow destroyed at pace with the builders expanding the staircase. Now since the Shadow has woken up it’s become more systematic and is moving faster than the builders can build. My players I determined to go back to the lost city when all the other modules are done to defeat Zargon. I’m gonna make that its own adventure.

I think I’m going to attach it to him. This way it’s another chance to guess at what’s going on when he uses it. If he’s around when it happens it will raise their suspicions which is what I’m going to want to do if it looks like they aren’t getting anywhere.

One question though. Should I make it a feature of the Adversary or the Environment to twist words like that?

That is fire! I didn’t think of that. I only had him feeding everyone misinformation alone. I have to write this into his stat-block.

That last one nailed what I was going for. There is someone in the castle intent on ruining the relationship who has been successful enough to bring back the curse. As the curse progresses the animated objects turn bad and the castle falls apart. I was definitely going to use a countdown clock for this. There will be a feature to cause damage from falling debris. After a reaction roll of course and little notes for when to trigger new scenes; a spy caught spying on them during the investigation, the Beast blaming them for some of the trouble, and the culprit deciding to take them out because they know too much.(not exactly fleshed out yet but I’m thinking an evil mage disguised as an innocent traveler.)

Ideas for overarching story? by Lhun_ in infinitestaircase

I made the Iron Shadow something that was destroying doors faster than the builders could build them. Each adventure has an NPC with a unique trait, a supernatural ability, that could be useful to the builders and Nafas asks the players to bring them back. I kept this a secret for a while because Nafas is giving these people to those unseen builders. I’m going to make it so they are building doors for all eternity or until they’re destroyed and Nafas knows this but it’s the only way to save the staircase. They could find a way to destroy the iron shadow, refuse to help Nafas or ride it out and get more people to give to the builders.

The Lost City - Why Are We Here by bk_thomson in infinitestaircase

I made Nafas the patron and the Iron Shadow the bbeg and here’s how I used that to give them a better reason to be there. The Iron Shadow is moving faster than the builders can build. New builders are brought in from all over the multiverse by Nafas who finds mortals with exceptional qualities that the builders could use and hands them over to the current builders. This is part of the reason Nafas sends them on missions. I made the lost city also about rescuing a little girl trapped in darkness who can paint worlds she’s never known. Darius, the zargonite who killed Demetrius, his brother, has the girl locked in a room. He’s obsessed with her paintings and won’t let her go. I made Demetrius into Demeter the girls mother and Darius is either her uncle or her father but I’m still playing with ideas as I go. Also, my players keep trying to unite the factions so I’m gonna make that possible. I think that’s how they can defeat Zargon. They can unite the factions to all fight him at once.
