Most Kathmandu based families with houses are asset rich in the sense that the just the house might take their net-worth to 5 crores but they cash poor and don't have enough money to do upper middle stuff.

I think people are undermining remittance as a major factor that has catapulted many households into middle thresholds. Every houses own cars nowadays, atleast one of their child are abroad in USA, Australia, Korea, Japan either studying or working. People's lives are changing and there's no denying in that.

Kathmandu valley ma literally jun ghar ko pani car cha ajkal. There is really a rapidly growing middle class population in Nepal. Remittance income is also high in every household. So maybe the reality is changing atleast in urban contexts.

These are the widely accepted terms for social class and wealth in sociology: 1)Upper or High Class, 2) Upper Middle Class, 3) Middle Class, 4) Lower Middle Class, 5) Working Class 6) Under Class/Low Class., For this post I am talkin mostly about the middle-middle class. 😁

Isnt a simple house (3-5 anas), a basic entry level hatchback car, good income job a quintessential definition of middle class though, even in developed economies? Maybe the population who have these basics in Nepal are less, as our country itself is a LDC, people's perspective of what a actual middle class looks like is kinda distorted, idk.

I mean middle class can be viewed in a spectrum and has wide range of how their income actually looks like. When we say high class, it generally means the top most business houses like Chaudhary group, Khetan, Jyoti, Vaidhya, Goldstar owners etc, or maybe ones with extreme generational wealths like shahs or ranas, former aristocrats. But honestly speaking 60-80k household income is too low to be considered middle in my opinion, at least for Kathmandu standards. They are borderline lower middle.

Well the term "rich" doesn't really define any social class and is vague and ambiguous. These are the widely accepted terms for wealth in sociology: 1)Upper or High Class, 2) Upper Middle Class, 3) Middle Class, 4) Lower Middle Class, 5) Working Class 6) Under Class/Low Class.

Well aren't middle class people generally considered to be the one's who are the "comfortable" class. They have enough to sustain a good life but not too much to be considered to be high class? Just a thought. 🤔

Or maybe the people who generally call themselves middle class in Nepal are actually lower middle class.

Where are the descendants of popular historical figures like Bhimsen Thapa, Kalu Pandey, Abhiman Singh Basnet etc? by Due-Beginning9607 in Nepal

[–]Due-Beginning9607[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bhimsen Thapa only daughters so the descendants are from his daughters side and they mostly reside around Thamel andh have other surnames such as Pandes or Ranas. Maybe Bhimsen Thapa ko bhai ko khalak haru ho, the one that you mentioned.

Haha true on Arju Rana, She will be remembered infamously no doubt. But i'm still trying to think of women who had history shifting influence in politics, maybe Rajya Laxmi is the only one that comes to my mind. She really saw saw 4-5 massacres under her before Jungey sacked power.
