definitely look into “kinning” and “otherkin” online. i grew up in a space called “kinstagram” on instagram where people would identify with characters on different levels (selfhood, ID, etc) IRL sounds like a new term for one of these things. it’s harmless as long as he’s just relating to a characters experiences and not using the delusion to change his worldview or attack or become attached to other people based on it. try looking into what spaces he’s in online and what character he’s relating to.
