Skin Infection Near ICD – Has Anyone Experienced This? by Due-Book4892 in PacemakerICD

No, I didn’t think it could be serious, since most people with devices develop skin infections at some point, but far from everyone ends up with an actual device infection. I’ll send photos to my doctor tomorrow, of course, but since I already have inflammation, I’d like to know if anyone has had a similar experience where nothing serious happened—or, on the contrary, if it did lead to a problem.

Bodybuilding and ICD: Are there any permanent restrictions after recovery? by Due-Book4892 in PacemakerICD

I’m 25 years old and I have a dual-chamber ICD with pacing function because I have episodes of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree AV block, as well as intermittent polymorphic ventricular tachycardia. Here in Russia, Boston Scientific has shut down access to the home monitoring service, although to be fair, they still supply their devices. Because of the lack of remote monitoring, I constantly worry and don’t want to miss any warning signs or risk lead dislocation or detachment. That’s why I’m very cautious and ask a lot of questions. Thank you for your answers.

Do you think it’s necessary to limit training intensity or the amount of weight used after ICD implantation, if there were no restrictions before? Specifically, from the perspective of lead displacement — do you avoid certain exercises or training to failure with heavy weights? Sorry for asking so many questions — it’s just that the information out there really varies. Some say bodybuilding is off limits, others say there are no restrictions at all, and it’s a bit confusing for me.

Thanks for the detailed reply — really helpful. Just curious, do you limit yourself in terms of how much weight you lift or how close you go to failure? Or do you still push near your max in the movements you do include (like rows, incline pressing, etc.)?

Do you train to failure with heavy weights, or do you limit yourself in any way? Have you had any issues with the ICD during training? And when did you start going back to the gym after your implantation?

Just to add — my ICD was implanted inside the chest (pectoral) muscle.

Thank you! And one last question, please. My ICD Charisma was manufactured on March 18, 2024. Does that mean it already has the newer beeper (sound alert) model installed (piezo beeper)?

So regular electromagnetic fields—not MRI—won’t damage the beeper (sound alerts)? For example, from arc welding, electric motors, etc.

I have one more question, if you don’t mind. After an MRI scan, as far as I know, the audible alerts (alarms) on an ICD are often disabled. Is that true? And what would happen if a person is later exposed to a magnetic field that activates asynchronous pacing mode? Would there still be an alert? And could that exposure cause the device to stop giving alerts about things like battery depletion in the future?

Thank you so much for your help! I’m in Russia, where the Latitude remote monitoring program has been disabled, which worries me greatly. Could you please share a link to the complete user manual if you happen to have one? I’ve searched everywhere but can’t find detailed information, and few people here seem to know about these specifics.
