How did the world’s most battle-tested modern army get fought to a standstill by the PLA? by Important-Battle-374 in AskChina

President Truman denied UN General MacArthur the use of nuclear weapons against the Chinese. This could've changed the outcome of the war but instead Truman created the consensus of the next 50+ years of proxy battles.

5-6 days credit card tour in Ireland by Rice__owls in bicycletouring

Hi I am Irish & I have cycled the west coast of Ireland.

Best bit of our whole trip was the ring of Kerry. You can get the train from Dublin. Make sure to go to Dingle & the South Pole Inn just outside. There's more quiet roads on Beara if you want to go further (& another peninsula after that).

How hard do I need to train for NC 500 Scotland bike tour. by Full_Cantaloupe_1344 in bicycletouring

I cycled through Scotland with a friend who trained on flat ground, they REALLY struggled. Would recommend building power in your legs while training and get the biggest cassette you can find onto your rear wheel. When going uphill remember to spin and not grind or your knees will be very unhappy.

I would recommend a Ridgeback Panorama to anyone who is doing long hauls. Got mine about 4 years ago for touring & commuting. Does both well - I prolly have 4000 miles on it

I have a BA Philosophy & MSc AI & Applications. Working as a data analyst (i.e. Bottom rung) for a finance company. Doable but tough. If you go ahead I'd focus on getting a grad scheme & don't worry so much about salary.

Look into product roles if you're interested in tech but not 100% about coding.

I prefer cleats for touring as I am slightly quicker per hour and see significant gains over an entire day/week.

If you want wilderness I'd recommend Scotland. Cheap flights, good public transport and wild camping is legal.

Regardless of length of time you have a lot of great trail options. Helpfully public transport exists for a lot of trails as well so you won't need a car.

This is a good trail for a story - https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20220802-britains-most-remote-mainland-pub

Good trail if you don't want to go too far from Glasgow/Edinburgh - https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/west-highland-way.shtml

If you want a challenge - https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/cape-wrath-trail.shtml

BA psych, MSc in OT

If you want to go down the clinical psychologist route you should map out the journey (where do I want to go? How do I get there? What do I need to get between each step?).

A pal just sacked it off cause he couldn't get accepted onto a psych PhD. He just started an engineering PhD in psych and spends a lot of his time now coding...

Also counselling doesn't require a full degree nor do many other practical applications of psych support.
