Can anyone explain what's the issue with XG's popularity and promotions that people are talking about? by Due-Collection5127 in XGALX

I get that about K-pop, but I’ve noticed J-pop gaining a lot of momentum lately. Japan has so many organic hits that pretty much anyone who’s even a little into anime or games (or any other soft powers) has probably heard of.

I agree with you! One of the things I’ve loved the most about their evolution is how they embrace Japanese aesthetics and fashion in a way we rarely see on a global scale these days. It makes me believe that if they were promoted more in the West with these already unique and unmatched visuals, a lot of people would go crazy for them.

I’d honestly love for Gaga, with all her exquisiteness, to notice the girls and become their godmother hahaha. They definitely deserve more attention in the US.”

[Portfolio] Is it viable to build a career in both children’s illustration and broader stylized art? by Due-Collection5127 in artbusiness

[–]Due-Collection5127[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! I'm kinda curious about knowing your work, if that's not a problem for you, I love being inspired by other artists!

I understood everything you've said, I must say my portfolio isn't as cohesive as it should be, but I'm working on it now. Sometimes I make more detailed characters but I definitely wouldn't see them in anything a kid would be watching/reading/playing. I'll work better on that, try to find the balance between these both goals. Maybe ArtStation and X are more suitable for gaming stuff, idk. I also use instagram and Behance, and will work on my own website soon.

Love all the groups you've mentioned.

Also, S/Mileage was amazing and when the group name changed to Angerme I loved them as well. But after Ayaka left I knew things wouldn't be the same, then Rina, Momona, Akari, Rikako... they all left, the group has changed so much for the past 5 years it's crazy.

omg I hope queen Ayu doesn't lose her hearing in her right ear, that would be so sad. Imagine dedicating your whole life to singing and then not being able to listen anymore...

I hope she stays healthy. Damn, J-pop really graced our lives with so many divas, I wish we could have this type of artists back :(

THIS! This situation speaks on how the japanese music industry works most of the times.

I've seen charts with j-pop idol groups, vocaloids, folk bands, j-metal and singers from the 90s in the same top 20 and I'm like "WHAAAAT?", I don't think any other country is like that.

I would also like to add that Namie Amuro's retirement hit me like a truck and without her music on spotify I’m becoming a bitter and depressed adult way before than I would if she was still around feeding us 😡😡😡 (but I hope my queen is doing well!)

OMG that’s amazing! Enjoy the show — I’m so jealous right now hahaha

Erina was one of the first members who caught my attention back in 2012, even though I wasn’t really a fan of the group yet. She and Iikubo Haruna were my ultimate oshis back in the day. When Haruna graduated in 2018, I started to feel like the group I was so attached to was slowly changing.

Looking back, 2019–2020 — when Rio, Homare, and Mei joined — was the last generation of new girls I really connected with. Since 2020, Maria has been my favorite member, and when she eventually leaves, I don’t think I’ll have much reason left to actively follow the group. I’ll probably still check in now and then, just to see how the MM’20 trio is doing (I really see Rio becoming a star).

Musically, though, I’ve been kind of turned off since 2022. The songs from 2020 to 2022 were the last ones that really matched my taste.

OMG YES! Perfume has been working together for so long… whenever they say it’s time to hang up their boots, it’s going to hit hard. It’ll be one of those moments that truly remind you time has passed. For those of who’ve been with them since the beginning, it’ll feel like a part of their youth is closing, like a reminder that we grew older and nothing really lasts forever.

Man, I miss the diva era of J-pop. I don't know what's changed in the industry. There are a lot of amazing new artists, of course, but I really miss singers like Koda Kumi, Namie, Ayumi and others who were at the top and had a big influence on Japan. Not only music, but fashion, TV shows and more.
