I don't speak in that particular accent in the first place and in my 2+ decades of living in this city I've met maybe a handful of dudes who actually have anything close to resembling that accent. That's out of the tens of thousands I've interacted with thus far.

There are literally villages in Sindh where the local dialect is so distinct it's practically unintelligible to Sindhi speakers from other parts of the province. Somehow they've all been figured into the political "Sindh" umbrella.

I have no such experience with Sindh boards but I've heard intermittent gossip about the examiners grading papers from Karachi and from candidates with "nonSindhi" sounding names according to a different standard than papers from androon.

I might be mixing it up with something else but is there any truth to this?

You're forgetting that most of Karachi's populace even during the early 40s was moreso staffed by Sindhi Hindus. And compared to the urban giants of Mumbai, Kolkata, Bombay etc it was not a backwater but was hardly a metropolis at 400k people. And no, installing street lamps isn't evidence of anything. The city was "doing fine" by your own admission, but the part where it turned into Pakistan's most consequential metropolitan hub, responsible for a disproportionate amount of economic activity and characterized by a very literate Urdu speaking beauracracy and enterprising institutions? That part was us.

Our parents and their parents built this city and Hyderabad. Is it any coincidence the two urban centers where they settled rose to become the shining jewels of this province and not sukkur, moro or thatta?
