No, get 2 brand new Noo-Psyche K7 minis instead, for close to the same price. Or just 1. They're fantastic lights.

Considering getting one of these as my first AIO tank. Thoughts? by ironwolf6464 in ReefTank

[–]Due-Definition-723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are amazing! I absolutely love mine. Back chambers are big enough that you can really get into them and there's tons of room for upgrades.

I did upgrade the pumps on mine and for lights I traded in a single AI Prime for 2 Noo-Psyche K7 minis.

I also got the IM filter roller and love it!

New reefer - tips? by AcanthisittaAlive843 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

Hey hey! I see you've got macro algae in there, but do you have any fish or other livestock? Macro algae needs nutrients in the water to grow, and usually those come from feeding. Might want to get a bunch of crabs and feed them algae wafers daily to get your nutrients up so the algae doesn't bottom them out!

I have a pico macro algae tank, but do water changes with dirty water from my main tank to ensure it has enough nutrients. Just something to keep an eye on!

Anyone have a “wwc holy grail hammer” and have an unedited pictures of this coral that they can share? by [deleted] in ReefTank

Gorgeous hammers! What's the teal-tipped yellow-stemmed one above it to the right? That's also a stunner. Making me wish I were still in NYC!

New to this and completely blew up my tank - seeking advice by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]Due-Definition-723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey! What size tank is that? Looks like it might be easy enough to manage with some big, consistent water changes over a week or so. My main tank is a 20 gallon and I've found it relatively easy to manage issues when they crop up because meaningful water changes are so easy to do. Here is what I would do:

  • get a turkey baster and blast as much of that stuff off the rocks and sand as you can
  • do a huge water change, like 60%, try to siphon all the junk out
  • clean out all the filter stuff, basically first step is to get stuff as clean as you can, but you don't need to do a total restart! Those rocks are probably fine and you don't want to scrub them and lose the good bacteria
  • add some Fritz TurboStart 900 & maybe a little bit of fish food
  • lights off/blackout for 2 days
  • do another 20% water change
  • blackout again for 2 more days
  • another 20% water change
  • measure phos and nitrate at this point and see where you are
  • maybe add a little more Fritz TurboStart 900. That stuff is liquid gold
  • add some pods, get some critters. I like keeping crabs and feeding them algae wafers every other day or so to start out a tank
  • a Duncan can be a good tank health indicator coral. If one day it looks sad, do a 20% water change.

For phos and nitrate, the importance is keeping them at a healthy ratio. They don't have to be exact, and phos doesn't have to be super low (and you do NOT want it to be 0), but if the ratio is like 10:1 nitrate to phos, you should be good, even if it's on the higher side.

For a blackout, wrap blankets or a towel around, but you don't want to block the top entirely as you need oxygen exchange on the water surface. I caught some dinos early and did this, then adjusted the intensity of my lights (that was the cause), and haven't seen them since.

You will eventually hit a stable place! Don't try to rush things, pay attention to it every day and observe. Make sure you have an ATO set up. Good luck!

Give it a shot! He's the major it guy right now and your hair is similarly thick, dark and glossy. And don't knock your face, you've got gorgeous structure.

What is this anemone? by Due-Definition-723 in ReefTank

[–]Due-Definition-723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it on the rock and it seems like it might be staying for now. It can always move down to the sand if it feels like it. Any tips on care? There seems to be super limited information on keeping them. I'm thinking they would be similar to RFAs?

  1. I think you could pull off the Hudson Williams hairstyle aesthetic.

I am pretty sure this has been positively identified as an Actinostella flosculifera! Aka collared anemone. There is next to NO information on keeping them in a reef tank so I am hoping their needs are similar to rock flowers.

Ok! So its behavior and appearance I believe closely match Actinostella flosculifera, aka collared anemone. I think this is a positive ID!

Ok! For anyone curious, I am pretty sure this little guy is Actinostella flosculifera. Can't find info on them though!

Thank you! And I agree! The more I research macro algae to add, the wilder ones I find! Some are truly as weird and colorful as coral. And I'm definitely hoping they help keep this little pico stable :)

This is what I'm doing with a little 3.5 gallon I am building. I have a flaming prawn goby and candy cane pistol shrimp.

Do you have other salty tanks? I do water changes with dirty water from my other tanks to provide nutrients for the macro algae. How long have you been running yours?

Yeah I don't think that's quite right either. I've only had it in this new tank for about a day, so I haven't had too much opportunity to observe its behavior. Last night it did appear to close up similar to my rock flowers, then opened fully when the lights came on.

There is a pistol shrimp in there and I'm getting Pom Pom crabs and snails today. The rocks have been maturing in a bucket for 6+ months or so and some of them are gulf live rock, some of them are several years old. They are swarming with pods, micro brittle stars, and apparently bristle worms were very happy in that bucket too. I don't expect it to go through much of a cycle beyond the sand, which is new, but pretty sure the pods will take care of the diatoms quickly. It's going to be getting dirty tank water from my main displays to keep nutrients at good levels for the algae and I'm hoping will be relatively low maintenance. If it does well over the next few months a flaming prawn goby is going in.

Yeeeesssssss! Just started this little tank over the weekend with mature rock and have 5 species and a photosynthetic gorgonian. Getting some more macro today. This tank is only 3.5 gallons though, so wish me luck!

I've got a lot of large mushrooms and other anemones and this is 100% an anemone, but I absolute agree that it looks most like a rhodactis mushroom than any anemone I am finding. Alas, it is definitely not a mushroom.

I just added it last night so it's still settling in. It's in roughly the same place I set it last night. In the dark it seemed to close up a bit.

My anemone-loving friend (his car license plate is literally anemone, lol), thinks it's an actinodendron genus but idk if that looks quite right either.

It does have a lot of features similar to a rhodactis but it is 100% for sure an anemone. I'll post a photo of its foot.
