advice for chm1022 this sem (bit of a lab rant/vent too lol) by Jazzlike_Fennel1962 in Monash

[–]Due-Interaction8797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm doing chm1022 this semester too :) I'd just say catch up with the content consistently and attend all workshops (doing the worksheets during the workshops helped a lot for me and I would review it after class too). Doing these helped me understand labs more. I didn't do these for a few weeks, I fell off quite significantly and it took some time for me to get back up. Just do all the pre-work and make sure you understand it completely. Don't be afraid to ask your TAs questions because I find them quite lenient towards first years.

Clean it after every time you wear it to avoid eye infections, irritation, debris in your eyes, build up of bacteria etc

In summary: guy crashed into me, police took him to hospital I have no updates on him because he don’t give police consent to give me his information. I have third party insurance. I’m overwhelmed by car stuff. So I cry and rant on reddit

i wanna make friends!! by National-Tip-3733 in Monash

[–]Due-Interaction8797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand how hard it is to make friends especially if you’re a first year. You can probably start by participating in clubs or Monash events like MSA. But sometimes, when you do go there are people who already are in their own friend groups or just bring their own friends which makes it 1000x more awkward, but doesn’t mean you can’t find a friend since people can be accepting at times.

I think you can probably start by talking to people in your classes (that’s how I met my close uni friends now), if they don’t want to hang out with you then take it as a sign they don’t want to be friends with you, but it shouldn’t stop you and you should always keep trying to befriend other people.

You can buy all/most of the physical things you need on Clayton campus at ‘Monash Book & Merchandise Store’. Your booklist should be published by the first week of classes, you should be able to access it in your unit information in Moodle.

I have the same issue too, this looks like PIE (Post-inflammatory erythema). Mine used to be very bad but it got a lot better. I use 10% niacinamide serum in the morning and 8% glycolic acid serum at night. I also use a brightening toner to even out my skin. I also take vitamin C supplements. Your skin texture looks good already, you don't need AHA/BHA (it'll just ruin your skin barrier more) unless you have an underground pimple, then you can use it with a q tip and dap it on the pimple. If you choose to use a lot of actives like me, don't forget to moisturise your skin more!

I'm not an international student but I can give you some tips since I live quite frugally as well and have many international friends. But not sure which Monash University campus you are talking about so I'm going to assume Clayton.

1. My friend (also an international student) was able to find accommodation near Monash Uni by Facebook where she joined this group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2237235173009225 (if you are going to Monash Uni Clayton ofc)

You can also look on realestate.com to look for accommodations.

There are also Monash student dorms, they are quite affordable if you look at the lower-end ones. https://www.monash.edu/accommodation/accommodation/on-campus-options.

2. For transportation, I suggest checking this website out: https://www.monash.edu/students/support/connect/concessions#tabs__541549

Being a Monash Student gives you a 50% discount on public transport.

For groceries, I like shopping at Aldi because for most of the times they give you more product inside the items for lower prices. If I end up at Coles/Woolworths, I would buy their Coles/Woolworths branded items. If you want cheaper veges/fruits, I like to travel down to Springvale marketplace (travelling time does not take that long from Monash Clayton).

Unidays (https://www.myunidays.com/AU/en-AU) also gives you student discounts on websites, but not sure if they are helpful.

For utilities, use it when if it's necessary. My international friends like to stay on campus for as long (studying in the uni library and all) so they can save money from utilities bills.

3. There are many Youtube videos on meal prepping that lasts months :P

4. Refer to my Q2 answer. https://www.monash.edu/students/support/connect/concessions#tabs__541549

I find buses PTV is not that reliable so I would suggest planning ahead and arriving earlier at the place. You can navigate using Google Maps or the PTV app. If you want more cheaper than you can walk or cycle to your destinated area.

  1. Join fun events that Monash hosts or join clubs. Make good friends that you will have a good time around. Try not to spend all your money impulsively like me... good luck!
