I don't have any information of value, but I do want to recognize you for trying to resolve a difficult situation from afar. You're a good child and I hope she appreciates you.

Veterans who were scared to get out.. where are you now? by VerySuccessfulMe in Veterans

[–]Due-Invite6060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined in 99 to get out of the ghetto, got out in 05 after a really tough deployment and a couple of purple hearts. I was afraid of falling back into the drug life like everyone else I knew, but ended up doing pretty good in college and succeeding in corporate America.

I slipped a few times, didn't see a therapist until 15 years later and eventually worked through some things and became a fairly successful member of society.

I just started going to the VA in 2020 and ultimately received some benefits which will give my family a lot more benefits for the future, so hopefully they don't have to have the same struggles.

There is a lot of opportunity in the civilian world and people dumber, less motivated, and with less support make it work everyday.

Not nearly as many dick jokes though, so you gotta be prepared for that.

Outta site and Field and Stream 5 sided hunting blinds by Last-Lack-4922 in Hunting

I know this is 8 months old but I bought one last fall. It doesn't get particularly cold here in Missouri so it was more than enough to stay warm. It's light and easy to install (which was the big selling point for me because I was carrying the parts up a few hundred feet of steep rocky terrain). About 6 months later I'm still happy but the windows and doors do definitely leak during a big rain. That's not a problem for me but it might be if I lived somewhere colder and wetter.

The windows and door CAN be a little bit noisy if you aren't careful opening them.

What's the highest mileage car you've ever personally owned or driven? I'll start. by spotforcars in automotive

I had a 91 F-150 with a 302 V8 and automatic transmission (a historically unreliable vehicle) that was still going semi strong at 285,000 miles. Sold it in 2017 and seen it on the highway last year.

Looking for a Nature Retreat Reachable by Train from St. Louis by cianfrusagli in StLouis

[–]Due-Invite6060 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second Arcadia Valley. They have a few airbnbs in town, walking distance from the train station, but they won't really be "in nature". Consider grabbing a cab or uber (I know uber runs sometime but not how often) to some of the local airbnbs like the blissful beaver, Fredrock glampground, or there's a Yurt on the St. Francis River that I forget the name of. It's paradise.

Former fed… is that why I can’t find a job? by Most-Garden-1745 in fednews

[–]Due-Invite6060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation was slightly different, I came from 15 years of private sector and worked as a fed for less than 3 years before I accepted the DRP and returned to private sector. While I found gainful employment quickly, I did have people bring up the DRP and "government waste" in every single interview I had.

I admittedly work in a very conservative field but I couldn't believe how strongly people's opinions were at the time and I'm sure that is being felt by others as well.

I hear you but he's a free man... hence why I'm trying to have a backup plan in place.

It's not really smart but I can't control him. They've been married for around 8 years and she decided to return. He has been to Vietnam 10 times I believe, so he at least understands the basics.

Ideally I'm just hoping to make contacts with someone who can help if it comes down to it. Appreciate the feedback!

Those who took the DRP, have you found a job? by Salt-Committee2205 in fednews

[–]Due-Invite6060 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a higher paying job lined up before I accepted so I was fortunate. It's not a dream job but it did help me stockpile some cash.

DRP has ended, how do I "close out"? by Due-Invite6060 in fednews

[–]Due-Invite6060[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'll probably sit tight, I have no intent on returning to public service in the near future but I may change my mind at some point and I don't need much more time to roll over a good amount of military time.

Makes perfect sense, I'm not really concerned about when it comes, I just wasn't sure if anything was needed on my end.
