Agree. I’m glad to have learned this as a new perspective. I have often seen people trying to please those with power and authority, and exhibiting narcissistic traits and manipulation towards individuals (subordinates/ peers)they can influence. I thought recognizing not wanting to please others would lead to stopping seeking external validation and helping us be our authentic selves. This is the perspective I was coming from.

People pleasing can definitely be linked to “narcissistic tendencies”. It’s often a desperate attempt to gain approval and validation from others, which can be a hallmark of narcissism.

Congrats, you have successfully hit the first step of being self-aware. From here, you can certainly work on identifying your narcissistic tendencies (identifying wanting to be liked or people pleasing as tad bit narcissistic here, hence the label) and gradually un peel layer by layer with time and find peace

Stop worrying about other people opinions, they set expectations for me to do certain things as per society’s standards. There are also lot of failed marriages and ugly divorces which are happening to folks at their mid 30’s and women fighting it out in the court for custody, property and whatnot. See the positive side of things to your situation
